Selling my car with a fault - wwyd?

So tomorrow I pick up a new (used) car and have agreed to part exchange mine. Great….except today my ABS light came on and stayed on. My question is will this affect the sale? Should I tell the garage about it? Should I hand they keys over and keep quiet? I am generally a very honest person so this is playing on my mind!

It’s up to the garage to do whatever checks they want .
Obviously if they test it , and it’s still on , don’t lie .
But no need to tell them

Keep quiet. It’s probably just needing new pads and it’s not as if they have to pay the same as you would if you were getting it done. They won’t be making a loss on the deal either way.

I've part exchanged 3 times. Not once have they even looked at the car I left there. I know one had nearly bald (but legal) tyres.

Agreed i would keep quiet if they dont check when you drop it off then deny everything baldrick...

last car i traded in i managed to put a massive scratch on the boot lid with a bike rack the week before i traded it in. The day of the trade in it was pouring down & they just gave it a quick glance over as the car was wet they didnt see it

i never heard a thing back

Tesla never even looked at mine when I traded it in. “Leave the keys there” they said, and I just left it in the car park at Trafford Centre.

A light on might be an issue to you and me, but it won’t be a big deal to a garage. They will sort it.

l personally would mention it to the salesman that the ABS warning light has just come on he may not be that bothered but at least you have told them

if the car is being punted off to auction they probably wont care it would only realy be an issue to them if they were going to retail your car

l cant believe the number of people saying just pass it off to the dealer and say nothing. how would they feel if the dealer did that to them where the car developed a fault pre delivery and the dealer just ignored it hoping you wouldn't notice

The difference is the car you are buying - not selling - will have undergone the garages checks - mostly advertised as 90 point used car checks etc!

So if they are going to sell on a car with a light on the dahsboard they will gix it first.
