Tell me about it! We thought Hampshire was bad but Wiltshire is worse. When we moved in there were roadworks on our lane and we thought it was getting resurfaced but it was in a worse state afterwards. We reported some holes and they said they had been sorted, but their idea of sorting a pot hole is filling it with loads of chippings which then wash out. Problem is despite it being a single track lane it is used as a bypass but the council don't recognise that!
We have decided we can't have our Z4 anymore and even worried about the low profile tyres on our other car - already needed one new one. Normally we only have to replace tyres when they lose tread As others have said roads are low priority in cash strapped councils these days.

The annoying thing about their claim form it says
" The majority of claims brought against ... County Council are successfully defended " I wouldn't have gone off the edge of the road if both sides of the road were properly maintained and wide enough to safely let 2 vehicles pass. |

There's useful advice and templates on money saving expert about claiming for pothole damage. My sister successfully got the council to reimburse her for a new wheel and tyre but she did have to do a FoI request. The council paid up rather than sending the information through.

The roads near me are the worst they have ever been and instead of being properly resurfaced they just patch them which then need repatching a few weeks later.

Our roads too are dire!
As a driver I’m constantly swerving to avoid them and I follow other drivers all doing the same. In the dark and full of water they’re even harder to see. Those the council even bother to deal with in our area are the same as others are saying, done on the cheap and back within weeks. I know councils are strapped for money and I have no idea how the problem is resolved, but its awful in a car, I’d hate to be on a motorbike or a normal bike! |

I can remember not being sure what a pot hole looked like.

Our local council have an online reporting facility. Just been on and reported 2 holes, a collapsed drain cover and a damaged speed bump. They tend to be quite fast at carrying out a repair as if someone sustains damaged to a reported issue they are held liable.

If you were driving on the verge then you were off road so I doubt that you will be successful.

It's just as bad here for potholes but one of the worse things is the grass on the roadside and roundabouts only gets cut twice a year.
Last year a roundabout near where I live was so overgrown you couldn't see anything approaching from the opposite direction there were a few near misses and I believe it took a few phone calls before the council sent someone out to cut the grass.
