Our sat nav US maps are from 2011, still do the job fine - sure roads change, but gets you where you want to go. I'd download maps too as a back up on your phone / use sat nav as a back up, whichever...

Indeed you can. That's precisely why Joan downloaded "Here" and the Florida maps in the first place here at home - but in reverse.

The journey to AMI is fairly easy but going back to Davenport we enjoyed the delights of Frostproof and Zolpho Springs. Intentionally I should add.

I bought the new TomTom last year. Worldwide maps, lifetime updates. Have to say it's been brilliant and worth every penny. It's much better than inbuilt Merc and BMW satnavs. One thing I really like is you can search on a hotel / restaurant / tourist attraction etc and most are in.
Also it connects to the stand via a magnet so you can just pull the body off when you get out of the car.
Also has hands free for the phone , text messages and voice recognition.
It's really like night and day compared to the old TomTom.
I've used phone nav quite a lot and much prefer using the TomTom, it was well worth the cash.
