Upto about a year ago there was plenty of room to stand and touch the Dolphins, they would come upto people without food. Unfortunately they changed it so its almost all feeding area, if you are not paying to feed the area is very small and the Dolphins don't go there half as much. You really have to pay to feed them now to touch them.

Not done any Dolphin trips on cruise but done DC twice, worth every penny, save for that another year.
Keep your eyes on the waters as much as poss, we were eating breakfast one morning and about 5 or 6 Dolphins were jumpng and swimming along with us.

If you go on the 7 night Western Disney cruise I believe the dolphin swim at Chankanaab Park (Cozumel) is really excellent - you can easily book it independently of Disney too to save some $s.

Cruise friends of mine did it in February this year, and said it was well worth the money - you get a much longer interaction with the dolphins and its cheaper than DC (however, bear in mind you are paying for other things besides the dolphin swim at DC, and you do get a full day at DC)

PS You can also do a dophin swim at Xcaret (Cozumel), but its more expensive than Chankanaab Park, and your time at the Xcaret is limited enough (and the excursion expensive enough) without trying to do a dolphin swim on top - so would not recommend this.

thanks everyone for the advice. I think we'll definitely head for the feeding area.
