Car hire so much more expensive?

Is it me or has car hire gone up stupidly in price?

Last time we went was Dec 2014, now going back in Nov 2017, and prices seem absolutely crackers. I think that I saw a bargain/sale on the DIBB last time, but still seems a lot (have been dummy pricing for Nov 2016)!

Prices have gone up quite a bit since Brexit, what is your duration of hire and What have you been quoted?

Actually I'm not finding prices have gone up much from April. When I checked in April I was being quoted a price of £432 for an intermediate for 3 weeks in Sept. It's now coming up at £448. This was through rental cars.com with Alamo as the supplier.

Nothing to do with Brexit.
Prices are looking the same ir close to what we paid booking in Octiber for August.

Not everything can be blamed in Brexit, even though some unscrupulous companies will try to use it to push up prices

Slight contradiction there, as you said companies are pushing up prices using Brexit as an excuse. Regardless of whether there is a genuine need to increase prices because of the falling pound or because companies are unscrupulous the result is the same-prices are going up because of Brexit.

Regardless of whether the cause is Brexit or not, in Dec 2014, the pound was about $1.57. Now it is around $1.30. Therefore the same price in dollars will cost us in the UK 20% more in £ for that reason alone. Any other change in price is for other reasons.

I can't understand the massive differences in quotes.
For an eight day hire next May Alamo Brits are quoting £570, while US Rent a car only want £210.

Brexit has everything to do with it, pre Brexit £1 would buy you $1.47 today it would buy you $1.30. Purchase anything that involves converting to dollars-it's going to cost you more.

Whether you voted exit or remain you can't argue with these facts.

Does US rent a car include insurance. I doubt it. We use our own insurance here usually.
