My dad's car hired this year only took $20 when he filled up and he did this on the way back to the airport and was still charged $30 as he was not full, so we got the better deal by paying upfront.

I always take the pre-pay option. As the others say, there's not much in the price and it saves a lot of faffing around looking for a gas station near the airport - which might hike their prices anyway for the convenience of their location
