Conservatory roof UPDATE

After the massive hailstones we got here on Wednesday I have noticed my conservatory roof is full of holes. My neighbours is also in the same state. Is this something i could claim for on my house insurance? If not does anyone have a rough estimate of replacing it. The conservatory is roughly 8 feet by 14 feet and has 8 panels. It is currently the polycarbonate stuff but depending on cost may upgrade to glass. Thank you x

I guess you've nothing to lose contacting your home insurance company.

You might not be able to replace the polycarbonate roof panels with glass because glass is considerably heavier than polycarbonate, plus the joining strips on the roof probably won't fit glass panels in.

No harm in trying to claim but if the panels are quite old the loss adjuster might determine that the panels have deteriorated and become brittle- hence more susceptible to damage. When we replaced our conservatory roof, the Polycarbonate panels were about 15 years old. I was surprised how fragile and brittle they were. As I said, no harm in trying your insurer.

Polycarbonate sheets should last 25 years, according to my husband.

Happened to us a couple of years ago, panels were about 9 years old, insurance paid out but only for damaged panels, not the whole roof.

Every panel is damaged. Just been speaking to more neighbours and every conservatory on the street has been damaged. The weather was shocking x

We have just replaced our roof with a lightweight tile system. It's made a massive difference in the room and once the new blinds are fitted can see it getting so much more use than it did.

We had this fancy glass done on ours. You can’t just use the old frame, whole roof had to be redone. 6 grand I think it was but well worth it- now the room never gets too hot, it’s a lot more insulated (4x I think) and in the year since I had it done never have had to clean it as the glass cleans itself.

Roughly how much was this, looking at having it done our conservatory is 4x3 so just wondered on cost.
