Breast Screening appointments

I’m due mine in Nov but after speaking to the screening centre it’s clear that there will be a long delay well into 2021.

Obviously this affects a lot of us women, and I’m wondering if anyone has thought about having it done privately ? I’m aware that the images won’t be added to my NHS records.

I would still have the NHS screening done whenever that is, to make sure my NHS record is up to date.

What do you think ?

From Mrs Morrow.

I was due in May 2020 albeit I had forgotten about it. Had a letter about 2 weeks ago and I am going in tomorrow. So it appears there is a circa 3+ Month delay here in S.Wales.

I wouldn't go privately unless the delay was over 6 Months and/or I had concerns

Hope this helps.

I was expecting my first appointment as I turned 50 in April but not heard anything yet. I am not planning to go private and will just wait patiently.

I had a private ultrasound for something last year and it was sent to my GP so it is in NHS records.

I have had it done privately before now & it was no different to the NHS one and yes the result it did go to my GP. I cant remember why or how much it cost but I know it wasn't overly expensive. When I am too old to have an NHS one I shall defo go privately every couple of years as its even more important then as far as I am concerned.

My mum was due in Feb and had her mammogram in June. She was told that the screening unit was also seeing people on Saturdays to help them catch up.

I went last week because I found a second lump (same breast as 5 years ago). I'm not sure about routine appointments but they are seeing people with lumps etc.

Mrs O had her screening appt last week - exactly three years since the last one. Apparently they have been working weekends to catch up.

In Scotland you cannot have a mammogram for at least 6 months after your previous one. Think this is a medical rather than a cost issue.
Getting a private mammogram may mean you will not get your regular screening.
