Virgin reward flight refund. Anyone else offered this?

I’ve just received this email. It seems they are offering me a free upgrade or companion voucher if I cancel my refund request. Am I reading this right? Would it be worth doing? I’ve got about £1,750 tied up with taxes for the reward flights.

Anyone else had similar?

Kat

If you plan on flying with them next year then it’s a good offer.

That’s what I thought. But I’ve already booked with BA now for next year (should’ve waited really) but wonder wether it’s worth keeping to use sometime in 2022? Or just get the money back while it’s coming?

I've just had the same email, but I'm only owed about £500 (taxes for an u/c reward flight).
Not really sure what they are offering me in exchange?

My September reward flight was cancelled. I contacted VA and was told I had to find alternative reward flight dates or get a refund. I managed to find alternative dates in 2021 but was billed an additional £50 in taxes. Perhaps I should have held out as this seems a better deal.

How far into the refund process were you? I have approx another 40 days before the 120 is up but have seen some flights for next year I could book and cancel the refund instead.

I applied on 29th August so 26 days. I think I’m in the refund in 80 days section so probably due that by end of October? (Or maybe earlier since they’ve sent me this email?)

I’m a bit peeved as I can get flights to suit for next year but already committed to a BA flight now.

What happens to the amount you're due as a refund if you take the offer of a companion voucher? Thanks

You wouldn’t get the refund I don’t think, as by accepting the offer you are cancelling the refund request and as a reward for leaving the money with them you get the companion voucher. Effectively opting for an open ticket.

I decided to take the offer of a companion ticket in the end and rebooked our summer reward flights for next year.

We are going to convert our BA flights for vouchers and using them for hotel bookings instead.
