I think I read somewhere that if you buy tickets direct from Universal (and they occasionally have 2 for 1), that you can get in the park early but don't have this benefit if you buy tickets from a 3rd party.
Have I imagined this or is it true?

No you haven't imagined Dee, I've read that also. We weren't bothered about the extra hour as going at a quiet time of the year and decided the price on offer was too good to miss as prices only ever go up

That is correct. Only direct tickets get you the extra hour in Harry Potter world before the rest of the park opens.

With this most people can easily do Universal in a day.

Seems like the 1+1 is a no-brainer, especially if you're not going to be bursting into the park for the extra hour the Universal-bought tickets get you. Travelrepublic seems the cheapest out of the ticket websites I've had a search through as well. Thanks tommyc!
