C&L Malaysian F1 and Kuala Lumpur adventure - Day 3 - Kuala Lumpur
Day 3 - Kuala Lumpur
We got up at 8.45am and finished packing. We hadn't had a very good sleep as it had been very noisy in the reception area. As it is primarily an airport hotel, I am guessing there were some noisy arrivals ! I popped over the shop to get the usual coffee, juice and a brioche type bun for Chris and I had the last of the banana cake (5.75RM) . I also got a bottle of fanta for our journey which was 1RM (about 20p!). We got a transfer to the airport from the hotel at 10am which got us to KLIA 1 at about 10.15am. We found our way to the KLIA express which is direct to the centre of KL. The ticket machines were very easy to use and we bought a return ticket to KL which was 160RM (about £32) (the return ticket is valid for a month). We had about a 10 minute wait for the train, strangely they use the same noises to indicate a train is coming as we use in the UK which amused us . The train was very quick, halfway through the journey a Disney medley randomly started playing quite loudly over the speakers . We loved it obviously haha but it was so strange as the rest of the time music had been playing really quietly! We got to KL about 11am and found our way out of the station. We were getting a monorail to our hotel and had a little trouble working out what way the monorail was but eventually found it, you had to walk through a shopping centre (which is a general theme we found in KL)! The guy we'd spoken to at the race had told us how the monorail worked which was really useful - you buy tickets from the machine, these were 2.80RM each, most the machines only take 1, 5 and 10 notes (just a tip). You then got a token which you scanned and then when you got off at your stop you put the token in the barriers to get out. We couldn't work out what stop we were at because there weren't announcements (although this was obviously just a one off as every other monorail we got on after had announcements) but luckily we had kept count of the stops so knew when to get off. It was about a 1 km walk to our hotel which wasn't a nice walk as it was so hot and we had suitcases, with hindsight we should've just got a taxi! But we got to our hotel about midday and our first reaction was wow! We expected the hotel to be nice but this was even better than we imagined. We left our luggage at the concierge as our room wouldn't be ready for an hour or so. We were given a key to get to the pool but we decided to go out for a wander, so we headed over to the Petronas towers which was about a 15 minute walk, which included through a nice park. We walked into a shopping centre as we were very hot and thought maybe we could cut through to get to the towers rather than walk round. We didn’t realise that we actually ended up in the towers until we walked out the other side as the shopping centre led through to them doh! The two F1 cars should've given it away to be honest ! We walked out the other side to get some photos. We took some photos and then decided to see if we could find somewhere to eat, we wandered round the shopping centre and found a food court area. We went to a café called Nyonya Colors which was opposite a Nandos – we were kind of intrigued to know what a Malaysian Nandos would be like but we didn’t go there. I had a beef rendang and Chris had a chicken rendang, this came to 36.70 (about £7.40). This was so tasty! We both had a can of coke too. We popped into a shop to get water, soft drinks and some washing liquid to wash a few bits of our clothes. We hadn't estimated that we would be getting through so many clothes because of how hot and sticky it was out there so we wanted to wash a few bits of our clothes! I thought I had packed way too many clothes like I usually do but I think I actually ended up wearing everything. We got back to the hotel about 2pm and checked in, the lady at reception said they had upgraded our room! She didn’t tell us why but we were not about to argue hehe. We couldn't believe it when we saw our room ! It was the most incredible hotel room we had ever stayed in, it was about twice the size of our flat that we used to live in was ! We unpacked our stuff, which was really nice after living out the suitcase at the hotel near Sepang. This was the total opposite we had so much space! We headed to the pool to relax for a bit, the two days at the race had tired us out more than we expected so it was really nice to lay by the pool. It was still pretty warm so was had a few dips in the pool. We headed out to Bukit Bintang about 6.30pm, to find somewhere for dinner. We went to Changkat Bukit Bintang Street which seemed quite lively. After our lunch I didn't fancy more rice so we just wondered for a bit and decided on a restaurant called Movida which had a wide menu. I went for a very un-Malaysian cheese burger and Chris had a seafood pizza. The cocktails were 241, as we wanted different ones we had to have two each . I got a margarita and Chris had a tequila sunrise. These were pretty strong. The food was also 50% off until 9pm so the total was 120RM including tip (£24) which I thought was pretty good considering that included 4 cocktails! We headed back via a shopping mall, I popped into the pandora shop but it was more expensive than the UK so didn't get anything. We got back about 9 and sorted out stuff out the next day, we had an early start as we were going to FRIM (Forest Research Institute of Malaysia) so then went to bed.

Hi, thank you so much ☺. We stayed in the Royale Chulan, honestly one of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed in!
