Wood burning stove
We are considering have a wood burning stove fitted. Our fireplace would need lining and the mantle and hearth need replacing. Plus we need a stove and scaffolding for part.
Has anyone had this done? We've been quoted around £5k all in and I'm wondering if this is reasonable. We can do nothing ourselves! So reliant on others and this is an all in one quote. |

Exactly the same as our chimney and same quote!
We have decided against it as house needs a lot done to it that we could spend the £5k on. Also even the smallest one we think will be too hot for our room and finally we light the fire more for the look than the heat. Good luck with it all😉

Thank you - I've just been going through the costs again using the self build online page and it does seem realistic. So I'm therefore pleased to hear about your quote! Thank you

We paid around 5k 18 months ago. That includes installing an outside flu as we live in a fairly modern house, and building out the chimney breast to fit in the wood burner.

Sorry, if you mean that includes the stove then I think it's a good price.

We just paid £4300 for a wood burner. The wood burner was £999. It is freestanding, so we had the fake fireplace pulled down. We also live in a new build, so needed an outside flue up the side of the outside wall. The cost included scaffolding and a beautiful large stone hearth, fireboard, plastering, all fireplace/rubbish removed. We had a quote of £3000 more from a company in town, luckily we found a local specialist through recommendations. Maybe ask around for other people and quotes?
6 weeks later and we’ve hardly had a night without it on, we love it.

We live in a ver old house with chimneys (and damp) had I one fitted £2300 it’s excellent it does not make the room uncomfortably hot but we do need to open a door every now and again. We have open fires in the other living room and gas in the dining room if I would afford it I would replace the gas with a wood burner but need to keep one fire for toast and chestnuts

Would make sure you have read up on the fuel regulations coming in in May too.

Thank you - for the size required, which is fairly small, we have a choice of two I think! Both are 2022 compliant which seems to be the main consideration right now
