Universal, or not?

Hi all, it’s been a while since I posted but then, it’s been a while since I was fortunate to go to Florida...new business and all that
Anyway, we’ve always gone in July (exception of one year) and always stayed onsite at universal...mainly RPR but once at PB as it happened to be cheaper that year! Getting to the point, we’re looking at going the end of April and considering staying on international drive, towards the universal end to save a bit of money but the question is, will we regret it? We only do the universal parks and like to wander in and out through the day. Typically, we’d go in at night until it closed but with the opening hours being much shorter at that time of year, that won’t be an option anyway. I don’t want to spend what is still a relatively large amount of money and then regret not spending the extra few hundred to stay onsite.(and then adding the parking charges onto that too.)

Sorry, I am not going to be much help here, but I don't think I could go to Universal now and not stay at one of the three express pass hotels.
The last 3 times I have been to Universal we have stayed onsite with express pass and it has been a godsend, barely had to queue for anything. I think if I went now and had to queue for ages I wouldn't enjoy it as much

Thanks Lucyjane, it’s a dilemma, albeit a good one According to crowd calendars, it’s a quiet time, hence the reason we’d go then but I’m like you in that the last 6 times we’ve been, it’s been onsite with express passes. Maybe we wouldn’t need them then but I have nothing to compare it to having only visited end July/beg August.

We have stayed on site or had express passes the last few times we have visited Universal however this time there are 6 of us all adults and we just can't justify the cost of 2 hotel rooms or passes for all of us on top of the ticket price. It will be a quieter time when we go too so hopefully with the tickets giving us visits over a 14 day period we will be able to go back a couple of times and try to get there for park opening. Oh and keep our fingers crossed the lines aren't too long 😄😄.

I think it depends what else you are doing. If Universal parks and pools then I’d definitely stay on site as you don’t need a car even for that. If you’re doing other things that need a car and spending lots of time not only out of the parks but off site then maybe International Drive. I like on site at Universal and Disney. Only stayed off site once and didn’t like the hotel part personally.

Thanks floridagirl and scooby. We’re not really pool people, I like getting out and about. Our typical day from the last six visits has been: go to park early for a few hours, have something to eat, go shopping, back to the room for a couple of hours, back to park, have dinner, park again and then drinks to finish.
I’m kind of thinking that, (with the parks closing early) by staying on I-drive, it might give us a chance to experience something different...do stuff we wouldn’t usually do

We went end of April last year and stayed on I-drive but booked one night at RPR.Like Lucyjane found the express passes to be a godsend.Did a lot in the park in the morning, back to hotel for a relax, swim, drink then back to parks at night. We weren,t driving so used uber to RPR from I-drive and back.We did club room but there were 4 of us so it was worth the outlay for what we got

Oh well, we’ve gone and done it! Blown the budget and ended up booking HRH Decided, that if this was going to be our only break this year, we didn’t want to chance going somewhere unfamiliar that we might regret.
I’m away to sort my countdown out now
