A longer holiday in France

We are thinking about making our trip to DLP part of a longer holiday in France. But I would like to know if others have done this and where they chose to visit. We plan to drive but don’t want to go all the way south as the drive home will be really long. Any recommendations? Thank you

The Normandy coast would be my choice. But I’m a bit of a WWII nerd!

Villages Natures (like centre Parcs) near DLP
Loire Valley (lots of amazing chateaus)
Normandy beaches and the war graves eg Theipval
Maybe too far but Annecy is beautiful

Great museum in the rebuilt Ypres but as I said everyone should stand at the Menin Gate and listen to the last post at Sunset Its played every single day - come rain or shine

Tyne Cot is less well known but its the biggest WWI cemetery - immaculately kept of course - thanks partly to Rudyard Kipling whose son he lost and who was responsible for the inscription on the unknown graves "A soldier of the Great War known unto God"

If you've never heard of Tyne Cot you may have heard of the small village nearby -Passchendaele

If you have teenage kids then its quite a sobering experience for them to see the ages on the gravestones; walk between the thousands of graves and then to the wall with the names of the poor souls that they couldn't find bits to even bury !

We have done this a few times when we had our touring caravan. We tended to go out via Dover to Calais and return from St Malo/ Caen. We stayed around Paris/ Disney for a week and then 2 weeks touring. We went to Brittany ( Dinard, Dinan are among our favourite places) , Normandy, the vineyards in the Loire and the furthest was La Rochelle/ ille de Re. It is a long drive but you can break it up by spending a few days driving back.
I think it depends on what you are after, your accommodation and how long you are going for. We went for 3 weeks each time and they anre amongst our favourite holidays.

We incorporated a trip to Disneyland with a longer holiday earlier this year in June. Stayed at a fantastic campsite south of Paris at Berny Riviere, so well equipped with lots of accommodation choice and lots of facilities onsite. Did that first for 12 nights, then moved to Santa Fe hotel for 2 nights.
