2009 Pricing vs. 2019 Pricing
When I was staying in Contemporary in 2009 I checked the pricing online, I felt it was good value and decided to bring my dad over to join us for a week. I just happened to stumble across the pricing in my emails.
Look at how Disney have managed to increase their pricing over the last 10 years! The only difference is the view which would create a small variance in price - he got free upgrade to Garden View - actually opened his door onto Sassagoula River. It has always felt to me like they rolled out an 'emergency/contingency' business model to help ride the storm of 9/11 and the world recession. It was likely important to keep properties busy and incentivise UK/International guests. At the same time as dropping pricing they slowed development. Then everything started to return to normal around 2013 onwards. Does anyone agree/disagree? What do you think of the huge price increases over the last 10 years? September 2009 Pricing September 2019 Pricing

Wow! Wouldn't we all love a week at Disney for under £600 including ticket.
I've just compared our first trip in November 2012 to 2020 prices too: 2012: 2 weeks at POFQ with free QSDP, gift card, 3 adult and 1 child ticket: £2416 2020: 2 weeks at POFQ, no free dining but a 10% discount instead, 3 adult and 1 child ticket: £4268. Even more in reality as we'd need to pay for all of our food (price before discount was £4554, so nowhere near enough to cover food for 4 for 2 weeks). It's getting so expensive as I know my salary certainly hasn't increased with Disney's price increases, although I wish it had!

Actually for a more fair comparison you would need to take c. £327 off the 2019 price as there would have been some promos had it been booked within promotional window.
£20 14-Day Ultimate Ticket increased in price from £375 to £395 £42 for Standard View upgrade to Garden View. £265 for QSDP to DDP So, assuming my math is correct the 2019 holiday (booked within promo window would have been £1749.89 (plus $200 Gift Card)... 2019 pricing of £1595.34 vs. 2009 pricing £587.60 Also, the promo window must have been wider back then as I was literally connected (via ethernet cable) in Contemporary and able to book his holiday 1 or 2 days out and avail of Free Dining. So, I guess, roughly 3 times the price in that particular illustration.

I dont believe thar it was about the UK or international market. Its more that the Americans would not travel inside their own country as a resulrt of 9/11. We travelled that year and the year after and found the parks to have low numbers of people. The days of the 2 and 3 hour queues had mostly gone.

Factoring in the exchange rate from September 2009 with today's exchange rate then that £587 trip would today cost the equivalent of around £755. If the trip was booked in the Summer of 2008 when the exchange rate was $2 to the £, then it's closer to £900. Which is still significantly less than £2076.
When we went in 2010 for 2 weeks, we booked an offsite hotel plus flights for £3700 for the 3 of us (it was bought as a package so I don't know the individual costs). Disney MYW, Universal 2-park and 1-day Seaworld tickets cost £830 for the 3 of us. So overall it cost £4530 in 2010 before food/spends. In 2020, it looks like a 2 week stay at a moderate onsite hotel plus flights will be around £4400. Then £2300 for Disney, Universal and Seaworld tickets. So £6700 in 2020, which also includes most of our food and an onsite stay. Therefore, in my case, it's an increase of around 50% in ten years.

Wow that's such a difference!
I remember when Disney would offer a travel agent concession and I could get a 14 day park ticket for $199 plus tax! |
