ATL-MCO flight help

It is years since I've had to do the transfer at ATL, I am wondering how long I should leave as my cases will not be checked through and I will need to do immigration. Also is any airline any better than the others to book with or should I just go with the cheapest, I'd like to be able to pre-book my seats though so me and DH are not split up? We arrive in ATL at 15:05.

You should leave 2 hours as a minimum

Are you on a through ticket ? or arriving at 1505 and then departing for MCO on a separately booked flight ?

Immigration can be fast or slow depending on what planes have landed.

We got through immigration, customs, bag drop, train transfer to domestic terminals in 35 minutes but have heard of people being stuck there for 2 hours and missing their connections.

Personally I wouldn't favour one airline over the other - they all have good and bad points / days.

If booking your onward flight independently I prefer Delta , they have good ontime records and ATL is their main hub. You don't have to pay to pre book your seats but if not on a through ticket you would have to pay for your bags.

Thank you so much for your help. We are not on a through ticket but as you asked landing at 1505 and then departing for MCO on a separately booked flight. I will allow two hours, there is a 16:55 and a 17:55, I think we will go for the later one.

If you're not on a through ticket I would leave a longer gap. If you land late from the first and miss your next one you'll need to buy another ticket if I'm not mistaken.
Delta is the biggest carrier through Atlanta with Orlando flights every hour.

We went through Atlanta at Easter and left nearly three hours between flights. We all missed our connecting flight but we were were put on standby and were on the next flight as we had a through ticket.

Without a through ticket I wouldn't risk it so maybe leave 4 hours just in case?

Yikes! We're going at Easter too but only for 8 days, this sounds stressful

It was!

here's my trip report of the day. It tells you what we went through.

It is sod's law though that if you leave a 4 hour window, you will be through immigration in 30 mins!

How come you aren't on a through ticket to Florida?

We're flying on miles and that was all we could get for the Easter holidays, our dates are fixed as DH is a teacher, we were planning on spending a couple of nights at WDW and then going down the gulf coast so the connection on the return is no problem. I shall go and take a look at your trippy ,thanks

I've just read, it sounds really stressful, not my idea of fun, cute kids . DD transferred at ATL last year en-route to Mexico for work and she did it by the skin of her teeth, I'd be having a melt-down
