Oh that sounds rotten. I hope you feel better soon and that you haven't shared the bug as well as the love with all your family.

Congratulations on your new grandson. Am sure your daughter and her wife really appreciated all the effort you went to.

Weve had a lovely day. 15 family members at my brothers house. Total lovely chaos. Presents everywhere. Lots of food. Silly quiz on YouTube. Just a perfect day.

Last time I had to cook at my house I just ordered the lot from Morrisons and put it in the oven. It doesnt need to be an overly complicated meal. I just love having everyone together.

I say every year we arent going to go over on the presents and we arent going to go mad with Christmas dinner.

And what did we do? Both those.

I find it difficult when people visit us rather than us to to them as we are sort of waiting around to host and I just wanna be in my pjs really.

Started off great. Kids stockings, presents but it got a bit much as I had bought too many things as usual. Find it difficult to make sure everything is cleaned away and they dont have everything everywhere or we will lose stuff.
Kids uncle came round and played with them for 2 hours while I tried to cook.
The dinner didnt go well and I think this is where it all started. Both kids had tantrums etc, I feel more like a maid hoovering and making cuppas.
After dinner was great we played games although the kids got a bit cross cos they couldnt do it.
Then aunt, nan and Grandad came for 2 hours. Some reason their nan seemed a bit sour with me but no idea why.
Then it was just more tantrums for the majority of the evening by my eldest.

I feel like I put too much on this one day to be so great and when it doesnt turn out like that I get grumpy.

I need to next year
limit presents

Youve hit the nail on the head right there , what we learnt over the years is its far too much for children these days . They get completely overwhelmed by it all , the build up the excitement . They get overtired by the constant activities at school in the run up and then bam thrown into a room with a pile of presents where they just dont know what to look at first . They dont actually look at what theyve got until days after.
Scale it back as you say , play some quiet games with them and they will relax more . A colouring book and pencils work a treat while you are cooking or a dvd as a present . Kids want time with families and really dont need loads of pressies ( look at the box present list from floridatilly , that little face sums up Christmas for me ) .
Dont beat yourself up either , weve all been there but you learn the hard way. Ive lost count how many presents ended up on eBay that never got played with.
I hope you Have a lovely Boxing Day with your girls and take it easy x

No and yes. No because we had such a lovely day yesterday - nieces and nephews were great fun, food was good, no drama and everyone liked their presents. Yes because today is pre-travel day! Off to Orlando tomorrow

We saw the kids and grandkids Christmas Eve, so yesterday was very chilled, stayed in pjs all day, listened to the radio with drinks and bits and bobs (croissants then fishy starters) through till 6:30pm, main meal was fine, I just always have the problem that I really look forward to it but when its cooked I just dont fancy it anymore... irritates the hell out of DH, then TV (and pudding) till bedtime...
I do have that Boxing Day feeling...ready for taking the decorations down...
We decided as a family a few years back that Christmas Day we wouldnt do cooking for the masses or visiting, so our kids can have the day in their pjs... kids dont like to leave their new toys to go sit in someone elses house on the big day... it works for us, gives everyone the day they would like, if any of them wanted to come to us theyd be very welcome... we have the big family party (and buffet ..Turkey, gammon etc) on New Years Eve... therell be 18 of us this year...

I'm still in my pj's and have got the wood burner crackling away. I really wanted to light it Christmas day but as DH pointed out with eight of us in the living room last night it would have been too hot. He was right, so I can enjoy it today and relax. We will enjoy our presents more now we've got time today to sort the new fitbit etc. There is never time on Christmas day, and it goes over so quickly.
There is still six of us for brunch , I said I'd get it ready for around midday.
I did originally plan to make a lasagne for later but as we have so many left overs I think it'll be a more cobbled together affair. I can do jacket potatoes to go with the ham and other left overs.
