101 Palpitations Day 14 &15

Its day 14 and I don't feel well today.

AL was up really early and he swears he could hear coughing coming from under the bridge.

He thinks somebody could be sleeping rough under it.

Christine knocked up some breakfast to eat on the balcony but to be honest I just didn't want it.

Today we are having a "Divvy Up" and going shopping to spend it all.

This is gonna prove impossible because we have got more than $3000 dollars left.

It all seems a bit wrong somehow when somebody is sleeping under the bridge.

I can't believe how much we have got left.

Christine should really change her name to Prudence.

I felt like shouting down to that bridge.

Here mate you're not the only one that has been deprived.

We too have suffered starvation.

In the last fortnight I'VE LOST 6 POUNDS!

We went to a shopping outlet near Watsonville.

I did a Bing for the directions and woe betide anybody who deviated today.

An hour inland and the heat is oppressive. It must be well over 100 degrees.

Whereas at the coast it struggles to reach 75.

My head was banging.

The shops?

They were all there but not on the scale of Florida.

It was like Matchbox shopping when you are used to TONKA.

The Nike outlet was only about as big as the Tesco Express.

We did the usual panic buy because it was the last day.

Levis, Rockport, Reabok.

I managed to get all the golf attire for AL.

Purely because we just cannot afford it in England.

Christine even managed to get CHRISTMAS presents. She is one organised woman.

We managed to get through about $1000 between us which wasn't bad for a mornings work.

We really wanted to get back to the house do the packing and chillax on the balcony.

I bought a huge bag of polos for the plane. There was 2 choices of flavour Wintergreen or spearmint.

I chose wintergreen.

I opened them in the car.

They just smelt like Toilet Duck.

I have never tasted anything so vile it was like sucking on a steradent infused with germoline.

When we got back we packed most of our stuff and I went to bed.

About 3 hours later I awoke to the sound of Christine screaming her head off.

Apparently she had been shining the balcony doors (like yer do when on yer holidays) and she had been stung by a massive wasp.

Knotty had to vigorously beat it off her and then really squeeze hard to get the sting out.

Umm.

I saw the wasp and man it was big.

The size of a moth! .

I kid you not.

I can't say I blame that wasp because I've often felt like giving her a dig meself when she comes out with that "shammy Leather".

YES, she did just happen to have it in her suitcase.

Apparently the other three had held a meeting while I was asleep.

AL wants to set off at 3.00 AM.

Our flight isn't until 9.30 AM and the airport is only 50 minutes away.

He doesn't want to take any chances because the 101 North was so busy on Alcatraz day.

I pointed out that it would be Sunday, no commuters but I was out voted.

Its 6.00pm and they are all going to bed at 8.00pm.

Me?

I'm wide awake and now feel ok.

Christine had to have Piriton on toast for tea because her arm was swelling quite badly.

Consequently she was quite drowsy.

That was a shame because she would have stayed up.

I had been quite looking forward to sharing a bottle of wine on the balcony, telling each other secrets that are always safe because neither of us can remember them the next day.

PLUS who is going to do the rest of the cleaning!

They all went off to bed leaving me on my own like Nobby No Mates.

Then I heard the coughing.

AWWWWWWWWW.

I went downstairs on to the lower balcony and down the lane. ( I didn't want him to know which house I'de come from)

I was pondering what do you call a homeless person in America.

Vagrant, tramp I hate those words.

I decided on Hobo.

I whistled and then shouted not very loud I didn't want to wake the others.

"Mr. Hobo I've left you something for your cough".

I put the Polos on the wall then shot back up the lane.

Eat yer heart out Sally Gunnell.

By the time I got back to the top balcony I could see they had gone.

I then gathered everything we had left in the fridge (I knew we wouldn't be eating next morning).

Next I gathered all the bread, biscuits, crisps pop and water.

There was some of AL's tee shirts in the dryer I put them in. Plus the sandals he had hit the cockroach with in Vegas. (There was no way they were going home in the suitcase).

We also had loads of bags of change that we were intending to put in the charity on the plane. I gathered it all up.

Armed with four big carriers I went back down the lane.

I whistled , "Mr Hobo".

Then I did my Sally Gunnell bit back up the lane.

By the time I got back to the balcony they had gone.

Cleaning done.

Feeling better.

Coughing's stopped.

I sat on the balcony with my bottle of wine.

I felt like the last remaining hair on a bald head.

I pondered the holiday

Vegas?

Glad I've been wouldn't hurry back. Best bit Freemont Street.

Hoover Dam/Lake Mead

Dont just pass through spend time there. AL wants to go back and do the intense tour.

Would go back

Red rock canyon?

Glad I saw it

The cowboy town?

A laugh

Tims place at Flagstaff/ Grand Canyon

Didn't spend enough time there will definately go back.

Our night in the flop house in Bairstow?

An experience

Monteray?

Not to be missed.

Pebble beach

I see that often on sky sports.

San Fransisco?

Fabulous, but strangely I dont hanker to return.

Whale watching?

DO IT!

Day 15

My going home day is short and not so sweet

I really need to get this finished.

I am going back to Florida in April with old Meemee, Our Willy, Jilly and the COC those of you who read my 2009 blog will know what I am talking about.

I need to get organised for that.

Anyway I digress back to day 15.

We managed to be up and off by about 2.45 am

There was no traffic and we made terrific time. I resisted any sarky comments like I told you so, which with hindsight I'm glad I did.

We were approaching the airport when something happened ahead.

Two huge objects came flying over from the Southbound to the Northbound.

Everybodies hazards went on and we came to a stop.

It seemed ages nothing was happening.

There was a police car ahead.

Two limos on the Southbound had come to a stop but nobody got out.

Emergency vehicles started to arrive.

It was obvious the Southbound had been closed as apart from the 2 limos there was no other traffic.

There was no traffic behind us so it was obvious the Northbound had been closed as well.

The police lead us off the road with some kind of flair things.

As we passed the site we realised the flying objects had been bodies.

It was horrible.

The 101 was closed for the rest of the day. As it happened so near to the airport several people missed their flights.

To be honest I dont really remember the journey home I think we all spent it in a state of shock.

I do know we checked in with 75 minutes to spare so we must have been waiting on the 101 for about 90 minutes.

I did e mail Lauren when we got home to see if there had been anything on the news.

Apparently a woman in her 50's absolutely steaming drunk was driving the wrong way on the Southbound.
She came to a stop and a 28 year old chap stopped to help her.
They got hit by the one of the 2 limos and then the police car on the Northbound ran them over.

Apart from that it was a great holiday.

One thing I do remember.

WE LEFT THAT BLOODY DAMIAN IN THE GLOVE BOX OF THE HIRE CAR

I'm off now hope you enjoyed it
