Hollywood Studios Restaurant Recommendation?

We're going to have 1 day at HS at the end of our mainly Universal Studios holiday in February.

Planning on being there from opening to close so a relaxing lunch to recharge the whole family's batteries seems like a good idea.

When we went last year and were in the "plenty of time and come and go as we please" we were definitely in the "take snacks and keep the cost down" mindset but as we want to be in the park beyond 2pm a break in the middle of the day might be a very good idea.

Does anyone have any HS eating recommendations?
Flexible on whether it's Table service or Counter service (as long it's not a complete scrum). Already tried to book Ogas Cantina but it seems full on the day we are going.

Thanks in advance

Dan

My favourite at DHS is Mama Melrose’s. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and very decent food. If you book for the Fantasmic dining package then you’ll also get reserved seats for the show. If you prefer all American food then 50’s Prime Time is a fun place too.

If I had to pick one TS I would pick Mama Melrose purely because of the reserve seating for Fantasmic. The food is good as well.

Sci Fi is burger and Fries and good fun. Kids enjoy that one. One of the harder to get reservations.
50's Prime Time we had a great time because of the server.

H+V is very average. Only do if you want to meet the characters.

For QS I would do Docking Bay 7

Ogas you are not missing much. Crowded, limited seats, loud and overpriced.

We have struggled in hs to find decent food, we don’t now bother and just use the backlot express qs if we’re in need of food and have a quick burger etc.

I tried and reviewed four HS venues on our last trip. I would probably say I liked both the QS (Woody's and Docking Bay 7) better than the two TS we tried. The worst was Mama Melrose, food was really way below par, Italian is my favourite cuisine too so it was very disappointing, I would probably give it one more chance though. The food was good at Hollywood Brown Derby but we had some service issues, such as receiving our starters within thirty seconds of ordering before we even had water!

I understand Oga's is more of a drinking venue than an eating venue.

Here were my comments:

Woody's lunchbox
Docking Bay 7
Hollywood Brown Derby
Mama Melrose

We loved Woodys lunch box, the breakfast sandwich was lovely and who doesn’t love tater tots?! We also enjoyed Backlot express, we didn’t eat at a table service in HS in October, the previous year we ate at Mama Melrose and it was lovely. I think HS needs to up its game when it comes to table service restaurants.

In November we had a meal in the ABC Commissary. Its a quick service location but you have to book. I had a great pot roast with root vegetable mash and DW had a chicken salad that she said was excellent.

I agree about the pot roast, for me it was the best park QS of the holiday, though I could have done with a bigger portion, I could have licked my plate
