No Novo I know many were left in no mans land but here the protagonists were well behind enemy lines. Perhaps it’s a true even I just thought it was a bit much. But I’m no expert. It’s a good film I enjoyed it a lot but 10 oscars I find that surprising.

Also an orderly pull out by the Germans yet rotting German bodies lying around behind their front line ?

What about the scene in the town completely on fire yet a couple of druckards having a few beers.

I thought most of it was meh...
having seen it now i will comment further

the front line & no mans land didnt look to civilised to me... yes behind the line was less hectic . the actual front line was pretty small with no mans land being @300 yards at most. the front didnt move much hence the length of the war. SHelling was mainly on the line & supply lines

no one get wet! apart from the main character having to jump into a raging torrent river to escape the hun...

the dead bodies were 99% in no mans land, no one would go out to retrieve the dead or indeed dying. once they got into the german line/trench totally deserted

the drunkards having a few beers german soldiers in the ruins of a town they no doubt fought long & hard in. under thos circumstances im sure if they found some wine/beers they would get hammered

all imo of course

I must be in the minority , think I was expecting too much but I found it quite boring and nowhere near on par with Hacksaw Ridge or Dunkirk ☹️

I understand what you are saying ... I saw it this evening - I loved it. Like Dunkirk it gave a different aspect but I loved both films - others in our group preferred 1917 to Dunkirk. Was a bit of a dip in the middle but overall 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Only around half a dozen German soldiers all firing at one guy running away in a straight line yet not one bullet made contact, it was more like a James Bond movie where you expect the hero to get away in a very far fetched way .
Having said that you need those sort of moments in war movies and there was plenty of them in Hacksaw Ridge and Dunkirk , this one just didn't grab my attention for some reason but then my expectation was probably too high from the reviews I had seen .
I did enjoy it but I also did have to stop myself from nodding off 😳
