Well the plans to upgrade the monorails looks like it’s been pushed back, so that’s not happening for a while now.

Sort journey time, but what about inclement weather? Will they still run?

The only thing that I am aware they will stop for are high winds, and proximity of lightning. General rain will not stop them, it is mainly lightning which is standard procedure for outdoor park rides too of course. Wind speed is constantly monitored by wind speed indicators on the top of the towers. As for lightning they use the same early warning system that all the parks use

My concern is if they break down with people in them. Even 5 minutes sat inside a box in Florida heat is dangerous. I can only assume that Disney has thought this through thoroughly

They have already been testing evacuation procedures, and there have been several videos I have seen of them testing various aerial platforms, which are stationed onsite at the Reedy Creek Fire Station. Also they have constructed a floating platform with raised decks that can be used over water. This can be seen docked at the side of Hourglass lake ready for use in an over water evacuation being required. All these sorts of things have to be in place, and been tested before the manufacturers will certify the system ready to be handed over to Disney to run

I think it has forced ventilation. It is not true aircon, but it will cool things a bit and that also works stationary.

Thanks both, I had read there will be rescue barges to bring people down if it breaks down over the water, but that it has passive ventilation. If that's the case then there are going to be a heck of a lot of people in heat distress in the summer months with a breakdown within minutes.

I think I'll leave it for a few months and see how it goes

I’m sort of assuming Disney will have done their homework and designed something which doesn’t cause guests discomfort. They know they’ll get bad press if people start flaking out in the pods! 😀

Mmm. Rescue procedures or not it's going to be like an oven in them when (not if) they break down.

We all remember the Monorail that broke down near the Contemporary last year and it got so hot in there passengers removed windows meaning it couldn't be pulled by the tug. Took hours to get them all out.
