Actually Lemmonie that is the very reason we were advised to get a lanyard but our experience is that, UK side it makes no difference- OH's hidden disability is due to a brain injury, so severe communication issues, partially sighted & the list goes on. She doesn't want or ask for "Special" treatment , all she really wants is security to take their time & be patient, she even carries a little ID card thing but every time & I do mean every time, she get's stopped for extra security checks, she has a full side plate in her head, they just routinely ignore the lanyard & can't be bothered taking the time to look at her ID card.
Rant over You can keep your sigh though

What help DO YOU NEED? A lanyard wont bring you any additional help. All it does is alert staff that there is a hidden disability for them to be aware and courteous and offer help if asked. It will not get you a wheelchair, it will not get you fast pass through security, it will not get you a member of staff to escort you through the airport, it will not allow you speedy access through immigration, it will not get you help with your luggage.

If you NEED additional assistance like mentioned above then book it via your airline or directly with the airport and ask for what you need. The lanyard is worn to identify those with additional needs to staff at the airport. And because conditions are INVISIBLE no-one will know what you need to make your experience easier.
All i want is a bit of patience and a quiet space... like most people.
I dont want priority i want equality.

So do you think the lanyard just doesnt work? I wonder if the extra checks are because she has the plate and it sets off the alarms? Maybe thats just gonna do it everytime regardless? I book special assistance via the airline as we ask for support through security each time as my big 11 year old is autistic and if he was to be asked to do anything by security ad he didnt fully understand (pretty much guarantee that!) then he would kick off and all hell would break lose! lol

I wonder if perhaps that might help your daughter more than the lanyard? I would imagine security are more likely to be sympathetic/considerate if they could see someone needs to be chaperoned through? Chances are your daughter will always have to have those extra checks, having assistance might well make the process easier for her.

Exactly this. My husband has a brain injury, which in turn has caused a few physical issues too. I understand that people need to be stopped for extra security etc, but he really struggles with all the noise, instructions and general mayhem during this and I am not allowed to be near him during it.

Another reason to book assistance, A Lanyard on its own just isnt enough

My DD used the lanyard last year at Gatwick and they were fantastic with her, very patient and let her take her time and explained everything very well. She was wearing it the evening before we travelled (we stay at the airport) and a member of staff came up to us when we was close to the bag checks etc and told us to go through the family entry and they would guide us through - we had to explain that we wasn't travelling until the next day.
MCO has overwhelmed my DD and last year we flew to Tampa for the first time. I emailed Tampa airport in advance and explained her conditions and what assistance may help. They responded to advise that someone would met us to help us if required. When we exited the plane there was a Tampa airport staff member with a board with our names on it - she see us through passport control, through baggage reclaim, through the other passport control and right up to the collecting the car! Amazing service.
On return we went to the helpdesk (the lady showed us when we arrived where it was) and they were ready for us again. A member of staff came and showed us back through security and passport control again.
Great service and would highly recommend messaging the airport directly to see if they can help.

Lanyards do fast track you through security and immigration, they certainly do at Manchester.
We were also escorted to the plane with the special assistance passengers.

Always let your airline know. We were advised to get a lanyard as well when we told our airline. If you haven't a lanyard and you go through security how do they know that you need special assistance? Surely the lanyard would be of help in those situations. I was told we would be able to get onto the plane first! Not sure about This, the benefits would be get DS in his seat as he gets anxious when waiting for everyone in front of him while they get their seats put their bags away have a chat😉 why can't people find their seat and sit down to let people pass? Sorry off on one now😁

Has anyone used the Lanyard through Sanford?
I found it pretty helpful through MCO last year (but then again between me and DS it's hard to miss him, he loves a good meltdown through security literally had 3 immigration/security officers with us last time and the pilot stood on the monorail with us lol and frankly I've turned into a typical autism mum so i'm not shy about asking anymore!)

I’ve not used it at Sanford but I did book assistance and in my experiences Sanford was better than MCO. I think because it’s quieter it was easier
