We’ve had to split and go for 2 x 2 quite a few times as we always go indirect. We’ve always had the third seat taken by someone even when there are other free seats. I only ever book 2 together though. Of the two I prefer the aisle as I feel so awkward asking someone to move all the time to let kids out.

But hubby has to recline and I’m not sure if these ones do.

I get the aisle thing as I need to make sure I have quick access to the ladies room I always get this seat.

I don’t think I would dare risk maybe someone getting the window seats sitting with my kids or husband I would feel sorry for them especially as hubby wouldn’t be pleased so that one isn’t even worth considering and they don’t have any twos going out only coming home which I think I will change to.
We normally take 3 and 1 across the aisle. So the kids are with one of us and the other parent is still close by.

We are a family of 4 and I have booked a row of 3 and my husband is across the aisle in 1 of 4. I looked at the seating plan and couldnt put 2 in front and 2 behind because I would be worried about disturbing the person on the end.
My daughter has asd and spd and can get overwhelmed, for this reason I was hoping to book the bubble, even though there are 4 spare seats up there because of how the booked ones are they are all over the place - not sure if this is due to separate bookings or carefully planned ones! Just hoping dd will manage ok 🤞

When travelling as a 4 we were always 3 in one row and the one across the aisle unless on a plane with 4 in the middle when we took that.

When it is just 2 of us travelling we are more likely to take 2 aisle seats even if they are not near to each other unless there are any 2s near the front.

I have to have an aisle as I get up many times and get claustrophobic if I think I can’t get out. Although I can sit next to a family member at a push.

Definitely not on... I would have asked them to stop holding hands across me and if they didn't a quick call/chat to the cabin crew would take place saying I did offer to move. I would have been constantly moving to make them stop as well.

That is terrible behaviour, I would be embarrassed to do that if I were one of the couple. They certainly would not have been doing it for very long if I were in the middle.

In this instance I would feel sorry for the person in the middle. Having said that if I was the person in the middle and I could tell what you'd done I'd think it was hilarious!

My sister recently had the opposite issue. She was travelling with 2 under 10s, who are well behaved but do chat a lot. By the time she’d paid to book seats she could only get the aisle and window - the middles had been booked. She sent me a seat plan which read : DS, fool, DD, aisle, me

That made me lol as the poor ‘fool’ had to endure an flight between my niece and nephew ! I think airlines may be catching up with this as I note Jet 2 do not allow passengers travelling together to leave seats between them
I might be missing something here, but that doesn't make sense.

Are you saying all middle seats had been booked leaving the window and aisle seats empty? What would be the aim of choosing to book a middle seat?

It's the exact opposite of what people in the thread are talking about - booking the window and aisle and hoping the middle stays empty.

Aww, that is so romantic, had I been in the middle seat I'd have joined in the hand holding, to feel the love... according to our practice nurse I have a vice grip ('now, we're not going to hurt each other are we' situation), she reckons I could cut off blood circulation, oh yes, I'd have been well happy to hang in there, tightly...

Not every single middle, as most seats were pre booked, but of the four rows that were left - yes ! The middle was booked. There were seats scattered round the plane but she needed to be with kids. I can only think these people booked seats early before it became apparent it would be a full plane
