For older dibbers, a sad reminder.

I was 11 at the time. I can remember going around the estate that I lived on collecting for the disaster fund then handing all the money into my local post office to be sent.

There's a very good documentary on S4C tonight at 10pm hosted by Huw Edwards (it's in Welsh but will have english subtitles) - also, if you've never seen it, The Green Hollow is an outstanding piece of television about the disaster. The only place you can watch it at the moment is on youtube (the BBC haven't repeated it sadly) but it's well worth your time

I wasn't born when it happened but I vividly remember my nan watching an anniversary news item on the tv when I was young and crying. I read quite a bit about a few years ago.

I wasn’t born then either. It must be one of the most tragic (non war time) events to have hit this nation. Strangely I had never heard of it until a similar Dibb thread last year which prompted me to read up. May they RIP.

I was born two months later in a nearby mining village. Definitely grew up in the shadow of the event.

I live in Merthyr Tydfil, so many friends lost relatives in the disaster. The horror traumatised many for years xxx
