My wife has lost a weeks holidays and now her regulation break isn’t paid for. So she would now have to work 4 1/4 hrs to get 4 hrs pay.

The staff at Asda are on a big downer with this, 12000 face the sack on 2nd Nov if the don’t sign up to the new contract.

So bare a thought for them. My DW has had to walk off the counter a few times lately when she gets verbal abuse from customers because they can’t have all the toppings on their pizza.

Rant over,
I’m so sorry for your wife losing the holidays but the unpaid break is custom and practice for a lot of places... I worked in the NHS and in a care home and now for 111 (allied to NHS) and all of those has compulsory unpaid breaks... in my 111 service it’s half an hour if you work more than 6 hours, if you work 6 hours you’re not entitled to an official break...

It seems to me that the management /head office are deskilling the staff so they can’t use their common sense which makes things worse for everyone.
Items through the till equate to hours in the branch, therefor more staff to serve etc. If they put it through as one quantity then there’s less hours to get things done.
Nothing to do with not using common sense I’m afraid, it’s what they base the majority of staffing levels on.
