I queried this with the university I work for when we began to work from home in March and the answer was no. If we continue to work from home past September I will be raising this again ... the uni must be saving a fortune in electricity whilst we are all wah and as we go into the winter I think they should offer this benefit.
Your employer would have to be willing to pay the difference for you to receive the full £6 pw allowance. If your employer doesn’t wish to pay then you will only get the tax relief.

Initially I wasn't going to bother as I felt that the economy was in such a mess it could do without me claiming back a few pounds, however DH has been made redundant and our finances are not what they once were, so I am trying to find as many ways of finding a wee bit extra cash.

I looked into it and it's only if you've been made to work from home and not chosen to. Not sure what mine was to be honest. We were advised where possible to work from home - is that choice?

Working from home would be optional by then, if WFH is a choice then the tax deduction is not available.

Did your office close? DH’s building shut down so that was not choice.

I’ve always been based at home and the normal drill is to claim this on expenses from employer - we do it twice a year. It was £4/wk before this April.

Employers can pay this amount tax free without any query from HMRC so you can’t have both a payment and claim a rebate.

What you can do is work out your actual costs inc share of the property etc if you use a dedicated room and claim tax relief from HMRC on that - some people claim £100’s per month - but it’s a can of worms and you could end up paying capital gains tax when you sell the house.
