Villa booking affected by pandemic or cancelling under any unforeseen circumstances

I have read through previous posts and acknowledged the ones I wanted to

Therefore, I would just like to add my 2 cents worth.

I think it’s amazing if owners have assisted guests and no one has lost out.
I also think it’s as acceptable to not offer anything to guests if the owners will lose out.

We have/had villas booked during this terrible time.

Villa owner has refunded our deposit.
I truly did not expect anything.
I did not request anything.

We have been offered a discount if we book next year.
I have sent a claim to our insurance as I do not understand the 45 pages in the terms & conditions!
My primary concern when booking travel insurance is ensuring my health conditions are covered.
Paying a premium for my health is worth it-checking for pandemic cover was never on my radar.

Our future bookings hopefully will not be impacted-but I’ve signed up to their t&cs-my money is not refundable.
Just as booking flight only tickets are generally non refundable.

Previously, we have encountered instances whereby owners have gone well over and beyond to accommodate us.
I greatly appreciate this.
‘Big companies’ have essentially washed their hands and not even offered goodwill gestures.

Basically, what I think I’m attempting to say is whether it’s a private villa, dibb villa or whomever-we should all be thankful we are alive and able to plan and go on holiday.
Life is short-‘lost money’ is of course awful.
Not many of us can afford to fritter away hundreds/thousands of pounds.
I now view our spent income as keeping the economy ticking over.

However; in most cases we can hopefully raise funds again and venture away happily & safely.

I've booked for next April, but we're taking 4 newbies, one of who has medical issues so we may have to postpone til the year after if its not back to normal. If we have to lose our deposit then that's the way it is.

We had a few days in Iceland booked for next week, Ibis hotel at the airport and airport parking automatically refunded me without me having to ask, and Easyjet is refunding me after I filled their short form out. All this with non-refundable bookings.

The only people who won't refund us is the hotel, booked through Booking.com.

For those who’ve not seen my insurance claim thread-
Just thought I’d update here also...

Insurance claim was denied; I really didn’t think we’d get anything...
However, was worth a try.

Hmm, not so sure I agree in this unprecedented situation. It's currently illegal in Florida to rent out villas too so on that basis I feel owners shouldn't be able to just 'wash their hands' of you like that. Even if we could get there the service can't be provided.
However, if you're at peace with your insurance claim being declined then fair enough, and I sincerely hope you're able to plan your holiday again soon.
