hi I visited Old Town in May, we went on threee occasions, once during the day although not a hive of activity and the other two at night.

Although everyone was friendly, I was pleased that I wasn't a woman on her own. I also clutched my bag just a little more tightly than usual.

Enjoyed looking around the shops, makes a change from the usual Disney stuff and the kids did get some treats. The hand puppet shop guy was lovely and even got my DD involved in a little show.

Think you just lose some of the Disney bubble that you are in.

Have to say would be very cautious as to where you park too, not only from a safety point of view but also the car tow people.

Same here Izzy. 2 years ago was our last visit there, went to see cars, and had a meal at Pondarossa first.
we went over towards old town to park, and a young lad was sitting outside store, told us not to park there because we would get towed! ,but could park round corner... Naaa took it round to grass carpark at back, know it was a bit darker, but there were plenty of people coming and going so felt fine.
Still get that slight uneasy feeling there, like others cant put my finger on it, maybe just used to the safety of WDW?

I totally 'get' what the OP's mother feels about Old Town. We have given it a miss the last two years for much the same reason. There is definitely something about this place, especially after dark, that leaves me feeling uneasy. You just get the feeling that something unpleasant might happen. It's very hard to put your finger on it but I trust my instincts. For all the places I have been in Florida, I have never felt unsafe, but I do in Old Town.

I was interested to see the reviews from US residents and not just us UK tourists, just as divided as we are it appears.

Does anyone remember the Elvis museum that was at old town years ago, we were led to believe it was brilliant inside (in order to get our admission money), and it actually was the smallest and worst museum in the world. The few Elvis items (if they really were genuine Elvis things) were up for sale?

We stayed just opposite Old town in March. Personally we really liked it. Never felt scared or anything like that We found it had a great atmosphere.

I've just remembered the incident which made me feel uneasy that night! We had walked round the lake to the back where the gokart ride is, and were looking at a Monster Truck which was parked to the left. Next thing a group of men were on the ride, shouting and swearing at the operative! We sort of sidled away (and a moment later dropped my camera).

That was the defining moment for me!

Maybe I am the only one who has been mugged in broad daylight at old town (being charged to look at a few items in a dodgey Elvis museum).

Never been back since first visit in 99. Obviously this is a family friendly forum so I win't elaborate on what was openly happening in the Men's toilets. Seedy is too kind of a word for this awful place, so much better things to see and do in Orlando.

we visited OLD TOWN for the first time in 4 visits - and we LOVED IT! Went on a Friday night bit too early, so went back the Saturday a week later. Felt safe - people were friendly, loved mooching round the shops - more expensive than other places. Kids loved the 'fun fair' next door.

Think people have to go and make their OWN minds up - if you listened to every negative you'd never leave the country! Am sure a high street on a Friday/Saturday night in any UK City is farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr more 'dangerous / unsafe' *rolls eyes*

Personally we had a GREAT time and it will be firmly on our list of places to spend a few hours x
