We have stayed on Sandy Ridge quite a few times, and have never managed to keep them out of the bins. We just picked up the litter every morning.
Went out one evening to put the rubbish bag in the bin, to be met by one sat in the bin... and he wasnt moving! Hubby upended the bin and tipped him out, put the bin back upright... only to find he quickly scrabbles back up, and plonked himself back in the bin.
Another evening, a couple of them ran past us whilst we were in the pool, carrying chicken legs.
Theres a guy a few houses down from us, who feed them on an evening, puts out dry cat biscuits.
We love seeing them stroll by when we are in the pool, we dont bother them, they dont bother us

They are so cute, I love to see them. Never had a problem with them going through the bins though as ours have heavy lids.
I hope the ones provided by the new trash company are as sturdy, we paid good money for our old bins.

Our community have valet trash collection and empty the bins every morning, as such we ask our guests to only put rubbish out in the morning to avoid the issue.

DH forgot one day, we didn't realise how easy they get in and out of the bin until we witnessed, he just looked at us and continued his snack.
