Router Cable
Hi I’m hoping a dibber can help.
We are looking to move our router from the hall (where the telephone connection is) into the lounge. However the cable is not long enough and we need to get a longer one. According to our broadband provider the cable is a DSL cable but the only ones I can find refer to ADSL cable... is this the the same thing? Will it affect anything, ie speed etc

DSL is the generic term and stands for Digital Subscriber Line - so basically a lien that carries the digital signal - thsi can be the phone line or cable line.
ADSL stands for Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line and is just a type of DSL. ADSL allows you to download data faster than upload and hence it is called ‘asymmetric. Generally, while using the internet, you are likely to download more information than uploading. So yes - an ADSL cable will be fine |

What length of cable are you looking at needing? The reason I ask is that DSL extension cables can pick up noise, particularly if routed near mains cables, and they can act as an aerial for MW radio broadcasts, which are particularly strong after dark.
Belkin make a "high speed" RJ-11 cable with twisted pairs which cuts down on interference. This is the type that I would recommend. |
