One way car hire from San Francisco
Hi
We are looking at landing at San Francisco and want to do a road trip taking in LA and Vegas. Has anyone done the one way car hire at all? Who did you use and how much did you pay? Thanks in advance

We did a one way trip but the opposite direction to you. Anaheim to San Francisco 28th September to 8th October inclusive in a group w car with BA which was £306 last year. Are you finishing in LA or Las Vegas. We weren't charged a one way but returned within the same state. We didn't have the car for our whole trip. We picked it up as we left Anaheim and dropped it as we arrived in San Francisco to avoid extra rental and parking charges when we knew we wouldn't need the car. Hope this helps.

We are picking up from Vegas next year and dropping off in San Fran. Would any charges be included in the rental? We haven’t been informed of any charges but maybe I should ask the question.

We did, picked ip in san fran and dropped off and LAX.
I think it was meant to cost about £400 (it was all done through BA so I don’t know the prices seperately) but we upgraded to a Mustang GT at the pick up place for an extra $100

Have you thought about a full "triangle " trip.Vegas to LA to SF via Pacific coast highway then SF to Vegas via Yosemite and death valley ( or the other way ). We have done this trip and it was one of the best holidays we have had.

We have done the San Fran pick up and drop off in Las Vegas.
We had the Premium SUV (Ford Expedition / Yukon XL) for 17 days from Hertz in peak August. It was $443. We found the price was over $200 cheaper (including the uber) to pick it up from the airport on the way out of San Fran than it was to get it in the city. Other thing we found was that some were charging one way fee's which weren't that well clarified, so watch out for that. |

Agree, covering all of those are all worth doing. You can cover them without having to do it as a loop (saves a day or two of your holiday not to loop). The only bit you miss really is the drive through Bishop which I would not see as an issue. Its not less or more exiting than the drive up to DV from LA through Lancaster.
SF - Yosemite - PCH - LA - Death Valley - LV Entering DV at the Olancha entrance allows you to drop into Darwin as a ghost town which is so much better than the "tourist" ghost town at Calico on the i5 route into LV. To do all of that though I would really want at least 3 weeks to do it justice. |

Thank you so much. Yea, we are looking at the Pacific coast highway from SF to Lv.
Any ideas for itinerary would be greatly appreciated. We are Florida bunnies but this is our 30th wedding anniversary bucket list so want to make the most of it. Got 3 weeks off from beginning of November 20. Thanks in advance for any help Doris1971
