Question What is your best beach and why?...

We have booked our villa stay for next August and in the process of doing a rough itinerary. Would like to have at least one beach day during our stay. We have been to Clearwater beach on a previous holiday and would like to try somewhere different really.

What beaches have you visited and what was your favourite?

For us definitely Siesta Key or Anna Maria Island. These are further south than Clearwater and we usually have some nights down there.

Fort De Soto every time for us

$5 for the day with parking really close. Shops, showers, toilets, bbqs etc all within easy distance. And it is a vast area so can mingle with the crowds (not big the times we been there) or go to isolated areas for peace.

The old fort itself is lovely to explore and see some history and BIG cannons
You can go over the sunshine skyway bridge which is right by it (you can also do the bridge for other beaches and please be aware it is a toll).

They have bike and kayak hire there. Dolphins and manatees are always spotted there.

We have been a few times and love it there.

For us, our favourites are further south on the Gulf coast side. It would be at least a day or two out of your holiday as too far for a day trip. We've loved Anna Maria, Venice, Marco Island, Naples, Fort Myers Beach. Weren't keen on Clearwater due to how busy it was.

On the Atlantic side we did do a day trip to Daytona, which we wouldn't bother going back, and to Cocoa Beach near the wooden pier which was nicer, but again further south are our faves on that coast too.

In our defence, we've not explored north of Daytona on the east coast or Clearwater on the west. Maybe some nice places further North?
Will follow this thread as always on look out for new beach ideas

For a chilled out beach we like New Smyrna Beach, you can drive down the beach and park on it. We park near to changing rooms and toilets Esther street park is the car park we use if not on the beach, that end of the beach is quaint as well.

The beaches of Anna Maria island, Bradenton, Holmes beach! Seista Key, Naples, Sanibel Is, Captivia, Fort Myers are all gorgeous. We had red tide in July last year which spoilt our beach days. There was lots of people coughing and dead fish on the beach!

It has always been Boca Grande for us but this year we have booked 5 days in a beach front villa on Little Gasparilla Island so our opinion will likely change.
