Just keep Swimming 2018 - here we go again!

Travel day! ...

Yay, it’s finally here! Quick introduction- we are the Patrick’s x3, moi 46 - Disney planning control freak (think colour co-ordinated excel spreadsheet with hyperlinks
&#128514, hubby 45 - hates flying ✈️ , hates rollercoasters 🎢 and hates people (but bizarrely loves coming to Disney which contradicts all 3!), and our 18yr old son Callum, totally chilled, easygoing thrill seeking teen whom is fully responsible for this trip after throwing out there “but we need to do Disney for my 18th” even though we wasn’t planning our next visit til 2020 and has just finished he’s A levels so ready for this big time!. We last came in 2016 and this is our 6th visit (callums 4th). We are holidaying this time with the Williams x 4, Sarah (mummy Williams 52 and has always dreamed of Disney and can’t quite believe it’s actually happening, Sarah also talks to absolutely everyone all the time so you have to factor in “extra time” just to get a coffee &#128514, Mike (daddy Williams, 53, always has that look that he is having the least fun possible, and is not particularly sold on “Disney holidays” but secretly is getting more excited) but doesn’t do coasters or anything spinning. There’s Nathan, 18 yrs and has been good friends with Callum since primary, he’s a thrill seeker too and up for anything, and finally Bethany 10yrs old, loves everything Disney, princesses and is super excited! This is the Williams first trip to Disney, and have left all the planning to me (eek) and have confirmed they want to do/see everything and anything and are happy to go home at the end of the fortnight exhausted and on their knees 😁.

So we all met at the train station on time and to plan, so far so good and train arrived as expected. We Arrived at Gatwick and the simple art of getting the lift from the platform to the concourse took an unexpected difficulty when Mike left the group to take the escalator instead, simple action one would feel, however the rest of us exit the lift and go through the ticket barriers to find no Mike. We search, we call and after we describe where we are and he describes where he is (same place apparently) hubby finally finds him in the south terminal at check in and no where near the train station exit. Not too bad really, apart from the fact we actually go from North terminal not the south 😂, so after a few choice words from Mrs W we set off for the shuttle to the terminal. Check in at virgin goes smoothly, all luggage under weight (it won’t be!) and with very helpful friendly staff, complimentary ice creams are then handed out to us which was a nice touch (ice cream at 7.30am is ok right as we are Disney bound?) 😁, we head for security and all successfully go through barriers except Sarah and mike as in the short 10 mins since we left check in desks Sarah has managed to somehow chop the top of her boarding ticket in half so can’t go through (the barcode bit is torn off!) and security send a panic stricken Sarah back to check in to start again, with the rest of us already through so can’t assist! (Who knew there could be so much adventure so early on and not in my plan! 😂&#128514. Twenty minutes later and we are now all back together and through to the departures hall in one piece but the stress has taken its toll and we all head to the bar for some much needed cocktails before 9am 😂😂🍸. Breakfast at Garfunkles all round to wash the cocktails down was appreciated and although handed a 45 min delay before we knew it it was time to board! We was on Lady Love today, and a very friendly team, including three pilots? (must have been a b2g1f &#128514 introduced themselves and the team got straight on with the service. They were very attentive throughout and especially generous with the drinks service today which appeared non stop throughout our flight (our main hostess at the start immediately announced to everyone she was Scottish and doesn’t judge on your choice of drinks&#128514 and then promptly gave you two each time she visited! Usually on flights I find the food an ok, does the trick nothing special but edible kind of experience, but today I opted for the curry (have attached menu) and I must say it was absolutely delicious- I would pay good money for that of a plane! Twister lollies were brought round (the staff let some of the kids help them deliver them which was sweet) and then the cheese and chutney sandwich about 1.5 hrs before landing. A quiz and kids colouring completion with prizes for both wee done during the flight for anyone that wanted to partake which was a nice touch and I must say whilst I’ve always loved flying with virgin, todays was exceptional! I watched a few movies, Mollys game, I Tonya and the 15:17 to Paris to pass the time and before I knew it we had landed.

No problems at immigration despite following a Thomas cook flight in, about 45 mins wait not too bad and luggage was waiting as we got through. Collected car from dollar and the super helpful “Sean” at car collection recommended a car for us, packed it with our luggage, got us maps and after a quick overview of instructions (which consisted of D is drive, R is reverse, off you go 😂&#128514 and a nice tip we were off! Straight to Disney Caribbean beach with no probs (although only paid for 1 of the 2 tolls as didn’t notice the second til it was too late, so expecting the $15 “dollar administration fee” at some point.) for anyone staying here, yes as you drive in the first thing you see is the huge construction, however to reassure anyone concerned once your in your residential zone the impact is minimal, our view is great! So we just dumped cases in room and headed off by bus to Disney springs for dinner. We are on the ddp and The girls ate at blaze pizza the boys at d’luxe burger (despite instructions they are too fast to photograph their food apparently &#128513 - good all good no complaints, and then a little wander around springs and the Disney store for mickey ears, before heading back by bus to our much needed bed at 11pm their time (almost 24hrs since waking this morning so we did good &#128588.

Magic kingdom tomorrow - sooooooooo excited!

Until then
