We arrived at 3.25pm, also on a Sunday, we actually left the car park at 5.35 but we didn't rush, had a couple of smokes and I took an age to pick the car. We actually headed out of Miami on the I-75 a 4 lane motorway type road, headed across alligator alley to the 27.

It was dark by the time we reached the 27 which was a shame as it goes across the Everglades and would have been nice to have seen it in daylight. From the 75/27 junction it was about 45 miles till we saw signs of life, a garage, we stopped for a ciggie and to stretch our legs. Not much else to see until the Lake Placid or Sebring area when it starts to build up a bit and a few sets of traffic lights appear.

The traffic was very light and it was an easy, stress free journey, used almost a tank of petrol but at $30 not so bad.

We did alligator alley once late at night too unfortunately it was really smokey as there was a bush fire and we had to get across that to Naples that night as the state police was talking about closing the rd, I’m always on the look out for gators at the side of the rd however all I ever see are dead flattened armadillo’s or blown out truck tyres😂

Hope you have better luck this time, should stay lighter later than it did in Feb. Not long for you now, have a great holiday.

This just made me think and I do not remember seeing an armadillo dead or alive on our last 2 trips, used to see loads.

Just to update this, we got here 3pm Sunday afternoon and got through customs fairly quickly went to garage sorted car and once I got myself acclimatised to all the gizmo’s in the Tahoe we was out the airport for 4:30.
We had the bit of traffic just in the streets around Miami but once you get on that 27 it’s just plain sailing!
The views go on forever lol and we seen a gator or two swimming at the side of the road, had to keep an eye on the speed as you easily get carried away!
The views of the lakes going through lake placid was nice.
We stopped in Sebring for a checkers then got a few bits from Walmart and then carried on, took about 3-3:5 hours with the stops.
Having done both routes now I’d do the us27 again for sure😉

It was a very quiet road, even fairly quiet coming out of Miami for the first 10 mins.
My only advice would be about the whole thing though is if you want to get something to eat soon after touching down then get something in Miami as once you get on the 27 there’s not much at all until you get towards Sebring!

Thanks for the update, we’re doing this route a week Monday at the same time, we were going to just go the quickest route to Kissimmee which is showing as the 91 but now maybe worth going on the 27 for less traffic.
