Reservation points
I'm hoping this makes sense as I couldn't find much info on it.
We're converting points to 'reservation points' to book the Disneyland Hotel. Originally the points were coming from 2018 use year, and 20 were going to be set aside for another normal DVC booking to be combined with 2019 pts. What's happened is the booking window for DL hasn't opened when it's supposed to, which is incredibly frustrating as the DVC booking still had to be made when planned (for availability), but has defaulted to eating into the 2018 points intended for reservation points. Now freaking out that our California trip plans could be ruined if we're not allowed to borrow points from 2019 to book it? I hope that makes sense! |

Why wouldn’t you be allowed to borrow? I’m fairly sure i borrowed for our cruise as I wouldn’t have had enough points in one year.
You could also do a regular dvc booking at the grand Californian although I don’t know what availability is like. |

Yes. After you have converted. But you won’t convert until the moment you make the booking.

I had a nightmare with using correct points last night ended up having to ring up as it would not allow me to use our banked 2018 points and kept trying to borrow from 2019! All sorted but very stressful and caused anxiety about whether or not we had banked our 2018 points!

Update: I was able to make the booking, however...
They are telling me that one of my 4 nights in August isn't available and the hotel is fully booked. When doing a search online it shows the night as available. Do they only release a limited supply of rooms that can be booked with points? |

Yes it's generally a hassle and not great points use often, its often much better value to rent the points and pay cash and also save hassles like this, but it's great you got at least 4 of the nights.

We would normally do that but interestingly enough on this occasion at DLH renting the points wouldn't have covered the room costs. It's in excess of $500 per night. We are renting the points not used for off-site accomodation.
We are renting points for DLP because it's never worth using points for that. |
