Contacted my CC provider today and they have put the disputed overcharge on hold and will pursue. Will await Avis coming back to me too which they say can take up to 15 days to deal with.

And good luck to you too ! It’s just hassle. I’ve given them til 2pm tomorrow then I’m contacting my CC company. Mine is ‘only’ £60 but it’s the principle

Just got back last night - had a 3 week standard SUV Rental - pickup and drop off in Baltimore.
Got a Dodge Journey which was not all that old - 4586 miles when I picked up - and 6760 when I dropped off.
When I was fuelling, the needle hardly ever went to full - when I dropped off - I got another $4.50 worth in after the first auto stop for full tank - my receipt showed 20.5 gallons out - 20.4 in which I cannot believe - but no charge for this as far as I can tell - although they charge you $5.069 per gallon.

I have a charge of $21.81 - which I do not understand. My total charges are
Gross Time & Distance 686.43 T
Discount AWD E0193000 15.00% -102.96 T
Combination of Charges 69.98 T
CFC Charges 21 @ 3.75 78.75 T
TRF Charges 21 @ 1.65 34.65 T
VLF Charges 0.56 11.76 T
778.61 778.61
Sales Tax on Taxable 778.61 @ 11.50% 89.54
Total Charges 868.15
Voucher Prepayment -846.34
Total Deductions -846.34 -846.34
USD 21.81

So I cannot understand where the $21.81 comes from. Not sure if I should challenge this?

The car as far as I could tell had no EZ Pass Transponder (I should have asked when collecting).
I tried to pay cash every toll, but this was not possible - some roads have no cash booths, and some you take a voucher when entering and pay cash on exit. I had quite a lot of tolls (2 bridges which were each $15 for crossing the bridge).

I am surprised I have not been billed for tolls yet - but this will come, but as far as I can tell should be around $20 max.

I had a slow puncture and took in to Avis Hanover South of Boston - they would normally change car but had no SUV's - so sent me to the tire shop - repair took an hr and half, but there was a mall across the road so we went there. I asked the guy there about EZ Pass only roads - he said don't worry - just drive through.

Just adding my experience - I don't think my $21.81 could be currency exchange related, as the rental price when I rented would have matched the exact max voucher price in USD - and the rental price exceeded this?

We arrived home after an Avis hire to a charge on our card that they claim was for returning the car 2 days late! After phone calls and emails we got no-where and turned to credit card company who after another 30 days got us a refund.

Luckily we had taken photo of mileage which had correct date + the invoice from our hotel on checking out was timed at 3mins earlier than when I apparently returned the car

Well Hertz refused to accept my timed and date location photos which showed the correct mileage and fuel! They were not acceptable evidence. Also, apparently the reference number I provided as evidence of the phone call to their call centre on the day of collection ‘was not a Hertz reference’. Oh, I must have made that up then !

‘As a gesture of goodwill’ they will refund the fuel charge. I think I’m more furious than before as now they are effectively accusing me of lying. The ‘late’ return will stand. We did return it 20 mins late but their paperwork says 90 mins ! As it’s only $10 plus tax I can’t be bothered arguing any more - that’s probably their tactic

Funnily enough, my long outstanding complaint was resolved just 5 mins before the time I’d given them to solve, after which I’d told them I would involve the CC company
