Mobile Talk to me about Vegas!

Oh would love to go for his 50th next yr. Although his birthday is july I think it will be too hot and rather expensive so thought maybe April time. We (I actually as its a surprise!) are looking at 4 nights...is this enough?

I have no knowledge whatsoever on Vegas. I live in north east and cqnt seem to find a flight from leeds or Newcastle so guessing it will be Manchester. I just have a few questions...

How far and long is it from airport to the main strip?
I am liking the look of the luxor...any opinions or suggestions on this?
What are the must does? Trying to guess spending/costs etc

And finally how much is a good price? Just from looking on Thomas cook, virgin, tui etc its coming up £ 1500 for flights and 4 nights at luxor...not sure who else to look at x

DB a better person to answer but on a personal. Note
The stip not far around 10minutes give or take to get to the Luxor . Don’t forget the resort fee on which you pay local . You might be better off looking off strip if you useing a car . Depending on what you want to do ie the stip hotels are big most got shopping centres in them there all so the free shows along the stip ie the fountains which come a live to music at night it every hour I don’t know if that changed you all so got Grand Canyon and hover dam well worth a visit have a look in my sig I been twice and done trip reports just to give you idea as too flight depend if you want to go drict or via some where.

I've been in mid March (nice comfortable weather, but could be cool at night) and later May (quite hot and very warm at night). So I would think April could be really nice.

Travel time from the Airport.
about 10-15 minutes to the centre strip. probably only 5-7 to the Luxor (it literally looks out over the runways, the airport is that close).

4 nights? Well it depends on what you plan on doing really. A trip to the Grand Canyon South rim would be one full day gone, for example. If you plan to stay around the strip, see the hotels, do the shows, etc, it would be ok, but tight(ish).

Hotels:
There are ones for every budget. Luxor seems decent enough, only issue I'd personally have with it is that is the extreme southerly end (or at least as far as I would consider going) of the strip. So you'll always be heading north. If you're planning on walking you're about 25m to the Bellagio fountains for example, 40m to the Venetian. Personally I'd prefer to stay more central but there are plenty of transport options from buses to the monorail.
For that sort of trip I'd think about The Bellagio, Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, or Cosmopolitan. Venetian/Palazzo is where I'd really like to stay.
As to prices, I assume the £1500 is for both of you? Seems ok, I have been looking for DW recently and 5/6 nights in Venetian/Bellagio/Wynn was coming out around €800-€1000 pp sharing incl flights, depending on dates.

Oh, and just on dates, price is more driven in Vegas by how busy (generally how big the conventions that are on are, or major concerts) than time of year as far as I know. If Daytonababe happens to reply she'll tell you for definite.

I just priced up seperately...bellagio and virgin flights from Manchester direct...I really want direct ... came to 1700 for March 31 to April 4. Do u think that's something I could get as a package cheaper? X

Whole section of the forum dedicated to the West Coast which includes Las Vegas.

Best to post there really.

You can fly direct from Manchester, Newcastle to Paris might be another option. Edinburgh may also have flights.

Luxor is at the very south point of the strip, Caesars Palace, Bellagio and the likes are mid strip with Circus Circus and Stratosphere to the north. Avoid the north as they cheap for a reason.

Mid strip maybe New York New York for the right balance between location and price.

In 4 days you can do the strip, but won't really leave you time to see much else. But depends what you are going for really. We go most years as we have family there, but never spend more than a day on the strip, there is so much else to do.

West Rim Grand Canyone you can do a helicopter ride to in half a day. You will be impressed, but its not the GC you see on the TV. That is the South Rim which is 4-5 hours drive away, and not something I would suggest doing as a day trip. You can spent 6-8 hours just seeing it (its 10 times the size of west rim) and you will want to do either a sunset or sunrise. They day trips give you about 2 hours there which is not enough.

You can go to red rock canyon which is 20 minutes from the strip for some nice scenery.

April is one of the peak times with Spring break and the temperature being lower. July is low season and if you go before the school holidays you may get some decent flight prices. Temperatures will be high 30's into the low 40's but everything is aircon'd and set up for it. Its also a very dry heat.

Other price factor is if there are any big conferences or events on. CES for example in January is huge and doubles prices for that week, when you would expect it to be at its cheapest.

Try British Airways holidays for a quote. I’ve found them to be very competitive and they were by far the cheapest for the holiday I’m on at the moment. You build your own itinerary and we have 4 nights in New York, 7 nights in Vegas (Elara), all flights and 7 day car hire in Vegas. Cost was £1300 per person.

Flights were/are Manchester - Heathrow - JFK, JFK - Vegas, Vegas - Heathrow - Manchester. It was £500 cheaper to do this route than direct from Heathrow. There are quite a few Dibbers doing this route this year but going to MCO. I don’t have any complaints about the journey or BA (hope I haven’t jinxed it, lol)

For a shorter trip I would suggest a bit more central than Luxor. The hotels suggested by PP’s are fantastic but also check out New York New York, MGM Grand, Flamingo (gets mixed opinions but don’t discount it), Mirage, and Planet Hollywood as your budget might go further. For a special holiday the hotels listed might be worth spending more for but remember to factor in resort fees into your comparison.

Happy planning

Honestly, for your first visit don't stay in the Luxor. Stay a bit more central. We judge the centre as being the Bellagio and work out from there. All strip hotels around there are great, even the cheaper ones like the Flamingo which I stayed in for a couple of nights this year and was fine though my favourite just now is Paris.

4 nights is a bit short but is you're just staying on the strip and not moving about much it's fine. I've done between 5 - 10 days and 10 was my favourite. We did 2 and 3 days this year at either end of a trip and felt it was too short as we had a couple of newbies with us.

The must dos I guess are a couple of shows, tickets can be $50 - $100+, buffets $40-60ish, gambling $infinity, drinks are free if you're gambling. I've been 4 or 5 times and have yet to go sightseeing, there's too much to do on the strip and explore hotels and casinos that we run out of time.

We always book Thomas Cook too. This year we got flights for £150 from Manchester and ended up booking the hotels seperately online
