apple watch

Hi all,

Am considering buying an apple watch whilst i'm away, not sure id need the 4 so will probs go for the 3. What id like to know is is it worth me doing, will i have to pay import tax on it when i bring it home and does anyone know where would be best to get one?

Thanks in advance
Helen

We got one from the Apple store at the Florida Mall a couple of years ago. They never had it in stock most days as it was a new release, but DW kept checking their stock and it appeared a few days before we came back. We never got charged any tax, she just wore it on the plane on the way home.

You should declare it by law if it’s above the value of goods you can bring into this country , however as Pegasus daughter just wore hers there is no way they can prove you didn’t buy it in the states unless they find a receipt on your person

Its not the responsibility of the customs officer to prove you bought it there its your responsibility to prove you didn't.

In any event on an Iphone 3 the price in the UK is £279 which is less than the £330 customs limit for goods so its all ok. The price difference is negligible by the time you add tax etc these days so I ended up buying mine over here.

Generally with branded Elecs (Apple/Bose) and sports stuff (Nike/Adidas) the price difference is not worth it these days. Depending on which airport you are flying from the cheapest option might be the duty free - If it's Manchester and you pre-order you get 2 fast track security passes thrown in for free

Are you planning on getting a model with cellular capability? If so then bare in mind that it won't work here if buying from the states anyway.

Price at Apple is usually same in $ as in £, so saving is relative to the exchange rate (+local tax).

However you can find some decent additional savings elsewhere (e.g. in July/August Walmart were selling an iPhone SE for $159 which is much cheaper than the UK), so I would check Best Buy, Walmart, Target etc. to see if any local deals.

Personal tax liability is £390 and over (total goods, not just 1 item).

Wait for it to land in the UK, the pound to dollar ratio is just not worth it anymore.

I have the 3 series and after looking at the release of the 4 series there is really no difference..

I thought about buying mine last year but in the end bought it in the uk. Not much saving and easier from a warranty point of view.

I’ve just bought a series 3 in Walmart, the saving was about £50 so felt it was worth it, and fell under the customs limit.
