A very late NYC trip report from June 2012

Toby was still feeling hungry so had some pancakes



I needed a lie-down when the bill came... $80 + tip!
You won't be surprised to learn we did not return!

This is going to sound really bad but we were feeling quite tired and so we went back to our hotel room, FaceTimed the boys before they went to bed and to tell of our shock of lunch costs and decided we needed a nap. I had booked TOTR tickets and dinner at 5 Napkin Burger so knew it was going to be a late one.

...2 and half hours late we woke up!

We freshened up and headed out for TOTR, following Hannikins (sp?) wonderful photos I knew we had to arrive for sunset time.

We then caught a cab to 5 Napkin Burger in Hell's Kitchen for dinner.

Food and cocktails were lovely.

I was a bit naughty and had more chips... well when in Rome! Burger was amazing!



I can't remember the exact bill cost, but I do know it was cheaper than Lindy's!

As we hadn't figured out the subway yet we decided to get a cab back to the hotel, where we found these presents for my birthday from the hotel.







It was a lovely surprise we were tired out and so went to bed, not before trying some strawberries first looking forward to exploring the city the following day.

Day 1 was a really lovely experience and we had a great time. For me the standout memory was TOTR; to see the sunset over the city and the city light up is something I will cherish forever and I cannot wait to do it again this summer. I recommend this to everyone!

We woke up around 8am and got ready, we had a 3 hour cruise booked with Circle Line so started to walk and then it started to rain quite heavily so we hopped in a cab who dropped us off within a couple of blocks.



We showed our print outs at the window, waited to be called to board and took our seats outside... we soon changed our minds and moved inside. We got some pretzels and coffee on board for our breakfast. I am not too good on boats so I didn't want a massive breakfast

Our host for the cruise then informed us that as the river was so high we were not going to be go all the way round the island, but if we wanted we could get off and join the 12:30 cruise but there was no guarantee they would be able to go all the around either. Maybe today was not a good day for a cruise after all... We decided to stay as we were on board and in this part of town.

It was clearing slightly as we headed up the Hudson





The cruise was over and we disembarked. Although we did enjoy it, I feel I would have enjoyed it more if we had been able to go all the way round the island but we still found things out we hadn't known before. I never knew about the cable car so we are going to look into this for our trip in August.

We headed back to Hell's Kitchen to find something for lunch; we ended up in L'Allegria.

I fancied the sound of one of the cocktails... although in reality it was a bit strong

There was some drama at the restaurant, some older ladies were sat near us and one of them went to the bathroom next thing we heard was an almighty crash and the bottles smashing. Toby went to go and help her up and to bring her back to the table. Red wine was dripping down from her ears, which we all thought was blood. Her friends were helping her when the manager came over and said "There is a sign saying watch the step so you can't complain" before even asking how she was. Shocking!

We got our bill which was £55, yes £... we sure know how to pick our lunch spots!

We carried on walking back towards the Times Square area and so here are some photos from our walk

We wandered around for quite a bit, I was looking a Bare Minerals shop on 5th and after an hour looking turns out it had moved! Toby was not too impressed!

We then came across the Apple Store, pre-trip I had been so excited about going here. My goodness it was busy... and yet I couldn't find anything to buy. What was wrong with me
We didn't stay inside too long as it was amazingly busy.





We went to FAO Schwarz which is next door. We both agreed it was a quite an experience going into a toy shop without the boys.

From here we then went into Tiffany's and headed upstairs to look at charm bracelets, but again I didn't see anything that took my fancy, or within my realistic price range!

We then decided to head towards Bloomingdale's when we were told by New York's finest we couldn't cross the road. Surprise! President Obama and his motorcade were expected any moment. The policeman was quite scathing of the cost of a President coming to town and didn't seem to be an Obama fan, anyway he was in this car.



The motorcade soon past and we were clear to cross the road. We soon arrived at Bloomingdale's and we had a look around. I picked up some presents and we were thirsty and I saw the Magnolia Bakery sign and I knew we had to go there! (Big SATC fan here!) The cupcakes were far too tempting!

I am pleased to report it was delicious, so light and just yummy, yummy!



Toby had a slice of lemon cake, I believe, which he really enjoyed



We then went over to Dylan's Candy Bar to pick up some more presents for work friends, our boys and friends children. I love this shop but it so easy to get carried away!



Bye, bye Bloomingdales



We decided to head back to our hotel room. We had a dinner reservation at The View for 9pm so we wanted to have a shower and get changed and rest a bit before we went out again. Obviously I took some photos on the way back to our hotel!

I swear those blocks were longer on the way back to the hotel than they were earlier in the day, and my feet really ached by the time we arrived. Bang went my plan to wear my high heels for dinner! We had a nice relaxing time. Caught up with the boys and before we knew it, it was time to be heading out again. We walked to the Marriott Marquis where the restaurant was located and were soon zooming up to level 48. The View is a revolving restaurant with fantastic views over the city. I am afraid the photos did not reflect this.
