British Airways seat reservation

Hi all

My boyfriend and I will be flying with British airways in April to Orlando, however the seat reservations are really pricey y at the moment!

The cheapest seats are roughly £45 each, each way - the boyfriend not keen to spend nearly £150 on seats and advises we should just wait closer to the time to book and see if the price drops, or wait till check in 24 hours before departure and hope we get a seat together 😩

I rather pay so we can sit together which is the only thing I’m bothered about - i’m not fussy where I sit on the plane.

Any advice please ? Pay the money or wait it out ? !

I’ve not known seat prices drop nearer the time. You’re other option is to keep an eye on the seat map and go for free seat selection 24 hours before you fly. However, if you want to guarantee sitting together you may need to pay.

We have decided not to pay. Our online check in is next Wednesday so we will see what happens. Although we would prefer to sit together (well I would but DH said he was happy to sit the other end of the plane to me and our our DD to get some peace ) we aren’t prepared to pay £200 to do so. It is only 9 hours ish each way so we can put up with sitting apart for that time if necessary.

Normally the seat prices do drop closer to the time, ours did last year. Instead keep checking on the BA site to see what seats are left and if it looks like seats together are getting thin on the ground, then we pay.

I’ve used ba a couple of times and never paid, sometimes 5 of us and again with just 2, I check in bang on 24 hours (we have a connection so we can check in slightly earlier than those going direct) ba always have us sitting together, I can then move seats if I want and if there is availability. I believe they allocate family’s with under 12 around 7 days before and everyone else around 2 days before, but you can’t see this until check in, you’ll just notice suddenly there are hardly any seats left.

Yes we paid too, £220 for the return for the 2 of us, I’m not being stuck in between 2 strange men again it was truly awful, this was because we were out and forgot to check in 24 hrs on the return journey, usually we do it on the dot and sit together for free

I would pay, but things like this really bother me and I wouldn't like to leave it - I'd rather just pay and know it's all done and it's ok!

We pay, we need one extra legroom seat and one for the other of us and the two kids behind. The cost is high but dont want to start or end a holiday with us dotted around the plane. It is worth paying for the lack of stress and the Avios points took the edge off the cost

We don't normally pay but this time we have as I wanted to be seated as near the front as possible due to tight connections coming home and also the fact that I have a problem with my knees and don't want to hobble to the back of the plane.

However we have travelled with BA as a couple and family with kids over 12 many times and have never been split up before so if you're not bothered with where you sit on the plane I wouldn't pay to book seats.
