I’m no Eco Warrior..but

Don't the supermarkets use an excessive amount of plastic in the fruit and veg department.

Having a salad today, lettuce, rocket, celery, tomatoes, new pots beetroot ... my indoor plastic bin is over-flowing...

Off now to put the apples in the dish...omg

Paper bags when I was a lad...

The supermarkets by me had made the switch to having the majority of their fruit and veg loose rather than in plastic just before the pandemic started. It went back to mainly being wrapped because of Covid. I imagine once we’re back to “normal” plastic use will be a bigger focus again.

I couldn't agree more - so frustrating.

More pressure should be on the supermarkets to use less plastic, offer more loose product, and encourage us, the shoppers, to bring in containers.

Yes they do use far too much, many were moving to less packaging pre Covid

But the never really proven rumours that Covid was on packaging destroyed any hope of products having less packaging ironically having a detrimental effect they used more packaging.

Because people are more concerned than ever about open goods it seems the retailers have gone overboard with the excess.

All the things we had started to adapt to regarding climate change have now gone by the by such as taking your own cups to coffee shops etc.

I actually show this in Morrisons yesterday.

A sign at the butcher's counter encouraging customers to bring in their own containers.

I agree there should be less but it will take many years due to this Virus

Lets be honest the Dibb is a snapshot of Society and people on here were saying:-

Dont touch stuff in the Shops
Spray shopping bags with disinfectant
Dont open Parcels or Letters for 3 days
Etc etc

So there is now another uphill battle to face before we see more loose fruit & veg..

Ridiculous amounts of Packing and plastic bags, boxes etc. When it’s loose I think of all the people that have touched them before me so I don’t have the answer!

Many of these initiatives possibly sounded brilliant in the planning stages but customers taking their own cup has killed the complimentary coffee and paper offer in Waitrose for us.

We won't buy loose uncovered bakery items, which possibly is impacting in store supermarket baking.
We will buy loose and wonky vegetables as they are washed anyway.

Lumping the campaign to highlight the impact of plastics on the environment with the general 'climate change stuff' needs a rethink.

Sensible policies to reduce plastics are needed.
Preferably without rinsing customers with opportunistic price hikes and overly punitive taxes.
We have already seen, what is it, a 95% drop in plastic carrier bag usage, after the 5p charge was introduced, will doubling this address the remainder ? More likely just make money.

Coming out of the pandemic we have an opportunity to reset many behaviours which can see a real change for the better, especially for animals.
