NYC Hotels (Again!)
Hi Everyone
So last December, my 40th Birthday trip to see the lights in the Big Apple was obviously cancelled. I had no plans to try again this year (permission to board the USA pending), and neither do my 2 friends I was travelling with, so it hasn't entered my mind until 2 days ago. Short story long, my Dad has also always wanted to see NYC at Christmas, and my Mum is a big Christmas fiend. I happened to mention that I had spotted some decently priced hotels, and the next thing you know, my Mum (who is NOT a planner and shows ZERO excitment for holidays ever) has asked me if I've booked, if they can come, and how can we get their passports renewed without my Dad knowing. Anyhow, I've been trying to look at accommodation, and its been over a decade since my last trip there, so everything has changed. I've narrowed it down to some hotels based on them being within budget, and also NOT charging resort fees. I'm wondering if anyone here has stayed at any of these, and can offer any feedback, advice or wisdom? Equally, have you stayed anywhere you can recommend that doesnt charge resort fees? I refuse to pay them for NYC, especially given the inflated cost for Christmas stays as it is. My options so far are Millenium Hilton Downtown Element New York, Times Square West Hampton by Hilton Manhatten 35th Street Sheraton Tribeca Hilton Garden Inn West 35th Street From my basic recent research, there no longer seems to be an area thats the main one to be in as there has been so much development? Thanks in Advance Gill

We have stayed in the Hampton by Hilton and the Hilton Garden Inn. Both had great views from the room of the Empire State Building and are seconds away from Herald Sq Subway and Macy’s. We loved this area with it being just a short walk to Times Square but not as busy.

Thank you so much guys, that makes me feel better!
My friend sorted the hotels for last time, but we were doing a sort of twin centre for Christmas shopping, plus she has a platinum account with hotels.com, so she was getting them for an absolute steal. Definitely out of my price range for now, and I just didn’t want to pick the wrong area X

Another vote for the Hilton Garden Inn on 35th. We stopped there in 2016. Good location and we got the train from JFK to Penn Station and then it’s only a few minutes walk to the hotel. Saved some money on a taxi.

New York prices for hotels are outrageous.
I often use Priceline or Hotwire as it’s all about location for me (although I always go for the four star option) . Best ever was a Priceline in the Times Square zone for a trip to BB Kings on W 42nd. I paid under $100 when the rate was 280 and got the Hilton on W42nd which was literally opposite. |

I’ve stayed at the Hilton garden inn on 35th. It’s right next door to the Hampton inn. We really liked it and the location, as others said it was great being right by herald sq. if you walk along 35th to 7th Avenue there is Andrews coffee shop on the corner which was great for breakfast. Or cross over towards 8th and there’s best bagel and coffee. It really was the best bagel, my husband still raves about it lol

Aw thank you so much everyone.
It’s still all very much ifs, buts and maybes, but you’re certainly putting my mind at ease. All the hotels I’ve found are free cancellation and pay later, so I’m not really committed to anything to just reserve one for now I guess. I’m seeing my parents later, so I’ll show them then X

Oh wow! It looks amazing. ESB will always have a special place in my heart, even with all the new fancier buildings x
