Villa security

For those of you that stay in villas. Do you insist on an alarm and a safe?

Having been previously broken into, It has always been a deal breaker for me, however I am finding it increasingly difficult to find them. I know the chances of being broken into are slim, but when it's happened to you, it does make you overcautious. For the record, we were broken into on a gated community, so that doesn't make it feel any safer.

Am I just worrying too much?

We have an alarm safe and security cameras. Our community is not gated it has monitored CCTV
I use our alarm all the time as it has a stay function I go on my own to the villa and never feel unsafe but ours is a tiny community mixed use ie residential and short term let’s so everyone knows if strangers are about
We also have to inform our Community manager of all bookings in the villa which has been another great feature during the last 13 months keeping our home safe

Like Gryff we also have an alarm, safe and have security cameras on the front and sides of the property.

We are on a manned gated community that only permits registered guest, visitors and vendors on resort.

Would like a safe but we have stayed in villa with alarm but no safe - we just locked in luggage and hide luggage away

I have a small samsonite wallet that is just big enough for the cash and passports, this then gets hidden in the villa

I also have a monitored alarm plus each en-suite bedroom has a safe plus in the master bedroom there is also a large electronic key pad safe to store large items like laptops, security cameras, and a touch screen door lock were each different set of guests get there own code which is disabled at the end of their stay.

We have a safe and monitored alarm and our resort has guards on the gate 24/7.

I thought safes and alarms were pretty much the norm these days. For this reason maybe people aren't always thinking to mention them in their advertisment.

We have stayed in lots of villas over the years and only 1 has ever had a safe to my knowledge. We’ve also never been asked to set an alarm, so again assume there wasn’t one. I’m sure you feel nervous and it’s understandable, but I’ve never even thought about either of those things. We don’t take much cash, so always have my cards on me and we don’t really have anything needing a safe, except maybe the iPads, but I’m happy to leave them in a drawer. If a villa has an alarm, do you have to use it? I’d actually prefer not to have to faff with an alarm, it would stress me out and make me nervous about setting it and setting it off accidentally, so I’d probably prefer a villa without an alarm if you were forced to set it.
