Normal behaviour, get a harness much gentler, try treats especially high reward ones like chicken, don’t stress you can do it together, try the nice game ie as you walk say nice with a gentle pull but not hard.

Thank you! He’s got a harness (if you zoom in you can make it out) it’s been fitted for him with him being so tiny so it’s super soft and the lead goes from that not his collar. Great advice thanks all! We will try a little walk again Tomorrow with all your tips.

our princess was exactly the same. We had to resort to the gentle pull on the harness & lots of "come on good girl" seemed to help. She wouldn't & still doesn't eat treats on a walk, so that was no help to us. Turned out she was frightened of the lead, so we have gone down the route of training her to walk her off the lead as we have loads of field area outside our front door. If she's being obstinate, standing still & not wanting to walk, we hold the lead up & say "do you want this?" she quickly catches up

My mum had Maltese and they would walk as far as my gun dogs any day
Yes they. Are great lap dogs but hardy little tikes if you let them
Don’t pick him up other than to return him with out a word to the car in his crate windows open and walk away to where you can see him but he can’t see you
Go back and try again and keep it up only praising when he walks
Even at walks by the house the same
Don’t pick him up when the door bell goes make him walk and see who’s there
Don’t pick him up to go out in the garden make him walk
They really are the original lap dogs but ours were know as fag ash lil and bogging bill as they would be off the lead and in all sorts towel bags in the car and right in the sink
And then ready for the off again if you asked
They are clever and stubborn and know a soft touch

Haha aww love that Bessie! I naively thought seeing him running round at home he’d love to walk but nope! I do think it’s fear a bit as he gets shaky so we hold him close and pick him up around any more boisterous dogs. Hopefully he will get used to it! 😂

They do, he knows we dote on him! At home he runs all round the garden, he loves it and is super good at fetch and chasing the kids round but it’s just outside the front he’s like err nope.

He is gorgeous!..our Lily also a Maltese... who we had for 16 and a half years would hardly walk...we carried her everywhere!
But she was so small and cute...they are not called handbag dogs for nothings🤣...which came in handy when we lived in France..she really looked the part😁
Hope he walks for you soon.

My friends puppy was the same, and apparently sniffing is really important at this stage, so just let them do what they are happy with and carry if needed? Such a cutie!
