Visa for USA

Hey everyone...happy Friday to you all!
So can I ask what’s the easiest and best place to get the visa process under way? Not going until 2021 but want to get planning!

Are you sure you need a full visa, or would the much easier ESTA (travel authority) be good enough for you?

Assuming you have a UK passport and have a clean criminal record you should be ok with an ESTA but you should double check

Do you need a visa? Most people travel on an Esta. It allows you to travel to the US and is currently $14 per person.

OP. Looking at your location do you have a British Passport that says British Citizen?

The citizen ship question is the pertinent one...

If it takes a trip to the embassy before visiting the states that's a proper pain in the backside.

Quote from the CBP ESTA page:

"*British citizens only with the unrestricted right of permanent abode in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man."

So I would assume that it has to be a Visa.

unrestricted right of permanent abode means they are free to live in the Country, if they so wish. Therefore, a Visa would not be required.

But OP is posting from the Falkland Islands, which is NOT one of the countries listed -
"England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man"

so a visa WOULD be needed from the way I understand the quote.

I think what it means is, if the OP is able to live in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, unrestricted, (ie because they are a British Citizen) then they are able to travel on an Esta.

The key word here is the RIGHT to live in the UK. A British Citizen can be currently living anywhere in the world and will still have the RIGHT to live in the UK.

The OP did not say whether they are a British Citizen or British Subject, or indeed of any other nationality, Argentinian, French, Chinese, etc.

The obvious place the OP should start looking is the official US CBP web site, which defines the rules. If the OP needs more information they need to ask the nearest (or most convenient) US Embassy or Consulate for advice or clarification. I doubt if most Dibbers are experts on immigration law as it affects the Falklands. The OP needs proper advice.
