Is renting DVC points as good as it sounds?

I’m thinking ahead to the 50th and would like to stay in an MK resort, specifically the Polynesian. Obviously it’s very expensive. Last night I spent quite a long time on David’s website, finding out how it all works etc, and got the prices for a studio at the Polynesian for the dates I’m going to WDW this year and it’s between a third and half the price of a standard view Polynesian hotel room for the same dates! Is it really this cheap or am I doing something wrong? Even adding on park tickets and the cost of food I’d be saving about £1,500. I’m a solo traveler and I know the studios tend to be for more people but with those savings I’d go for it.

So is it really as good as it sounds? Apart from the cost savings what are the pros of points rental and are there any cons?

Many thanks

Dvc rooms are lovely and have the bonus of a small kitchen which you would probably find great. I’d go for it if you don’t want the dining plan free .

You don’t get daily mousekeeping, but that could either be a pro or con, depending on what you like.

Thanks so much everyone, that's great. There's no free dining at the Poly next year so chances are there won't be the following year. But even if there is the savings I'd make renting points really would be significant, would more than cover the cost of food. I don't like steak and am allergic to seafood so tend to eat cheaper things at restaurants anyway.

That wouldn't be a problem. I'm not messy, don't put much in bins and would be happy to get clean towels every 4 days.

Another pro comparing to standard hotel rooms: instead of two beds you get a sofa bed. Better for a single to have a place were to sit comfortably and relax.

We rented 2 studios at Beach club villas before Xmas. The rooms were at least £300 cheaper each for the 3 nights we were onsite compared to the price of booking a standard room in the Beach Club. We rented our points from David's and would definitely consider doing this again.
