i looked at that yesterday, and it sounds good, but doesnt have much in the way of indoor geolocation. plus, its at least twice as big as i think i can comfortably get away with and the battery life is pretty poor (12 hours-3 days for general use) which is why i thought bluetooth LE or RF would be a better solution than a gps tracker...

i think we need a leap in battery technology (or low power gps tracking) before these sort of things become viable

What about one of those house key finders. I think they work similar to what you're looking for. I've never used one though, so not sure.

I should also say I know nothing about cats.

How about creating a den, or crate system, that she can hide in until she gets more confident.

when she's not hiding somewhere, she's very confident, extremely friendly and not really phased by loud noises (which is why being in the washing machine cupboard threw me so much!), so the den idea isnt much use (shes already got hidey holes under the stairs and in the kitchen cubby hole)

its just when she's hiding, and we have absolutely no idea where she is, it can be quite stressful!

as for the "house key finders"... thats kinda what i ordered, the new version of those things is probably the bluetooth low energy trackers like the TILE branded ones. a 4-pack is arriving at home tonight

my cats can find places to hide - high and low, sometimes so obvious that it seems silly that i miss them.
dark cat in a dark space is easy to miss

we made that a little easier with an extremely reflective collar, so it shines and stands out if flashed in the dark with a light source

(the collar has a bell too, but that's not nearly loud enough, especially if shes asleep/hiding)

Bless her Boo is still getting used to the new house! Try a Feliway plug in it has the pheromones that simulate a momma cat and her calmness over the room helping to relax the cats and hopefully make her less likely to stress out. Let her have her own area (our two love the laundry hamper and the sofa throws) to relax in. I think those Tile gadgets are the way to go too. I hope she settles in well and soon gets used to the surroundings quickly.

If you can't keep her in one room (for 'difficult' I read 'not impossible' though), then give her some better hiding places.

Boxes high up or behind sofas with a cat size hole cut in the side.
A big scratching post with a 'bed bit' at the top for hiding in.

She's hiding in the places where she's going now as that, in her eyes, in the best place to hide. Give her different hiding places and she may use those.

I would be wary of the key finder things as the high pitched beeping alarm may disturb and frighten her more.

i really dont think shes frightened. when she's in the room, she is extremely friendly and playful. i think she just likes finding new places to freak us out...

and yeah, short of fitting new doors to some rooms and completely blocking off access to the kitchen, its pretty much impossible to block off some places in the house

the first disappearing stunt yesterday *was* with all the other rooms blocked off, which made me paranoid that she had snuck out the front door during the only time i'd used it that day!
