Lasting Power of Attorney - how long to set up?

As the title says really. Has anyone recently had a Lasting Power of Attorney set up? How long did it take? the Government website says 20 weeks. However, we recently applied for new passports, Government website said 10 weeks but they only took 10 days to come through.

I realise LPA will take longer but anyone with recent experience of this?

A few months. Once you have posted it, it has to be checked then they issue notice to the attorneys. I think there then has to be a 28 day period for objections before it can then be finalised. I say a few months because I sent 2 at the same time. One got done in about 3 months and the other must have been lost in the system because I was chasing it for a year ! Eventually it just turned up one day in the post.

When we did it for dad, albeit it was a few years ago it took about a fortnight. We did it through a solicitor.

I wonder if this is an enduring power rather than a lasting power? There is definitely a 4 week period in the middle of the process, which is required by law. So minimum a couple of weeks to process each end plus 4 weeks statutory wait would be 8 weeks

I've just done it with my Mum and Aunt and it is more like months rather than weeks. We did both health and financial - everything needs to be signed and witnessed and then presented to the Court. I've had the final paperwork through now but the process started some time ago.

I think it was around a month when I did my mum's POA online (I wouldn't pay a solicitor to do it).

I had no choice to do my elderly mum's POA because it was the only way I could get access to her mney to pay for holidays and a new car.

I’ve just redone mine as my previous one was now outdated. Did it about 6 weeks ago but still not back from OPG/court of protection. This is both Heath and Finance

I did a couple a few months ago and I think they took 8-10 weeks to come through.
