Florida food!

Lots of questions lol.

So we have never been across the Atlantic. I keep reading about the size of portions. I am a huge dessert lover hubby not so much and my son who will be 11/12 at the time sometimes can eat for England and other times virtually nothing.

Anyway are they OK with 12 Yr old ordering childs menu. This is also more from a nicer resperspective as he won't eat lobster and steak.

Also again hearing portions are huge are "doggy bags" a thing. Is it frowned upon to ask to leftovers home. Son loves leftover pizza and ill hapilt reheat most things.

Doggy bags are the norm
Sharing starters and desserts are a norm or dessert to go
I often have from the child’s menu on the odd occasion we eat in the parks or a starter
As a main in restaurants
DH often has dessert to go and has it later with coffee by the pool

Big portions. Sometimes even huge portions.
Doggy bags were pretty much invented here, so it's almost expected to "ask for a box" when you're finished with your meal.

offsite portions can be big depending on restaurant we've had a few that 1 entree could have easily serve 2 esp if you were having a starter/dessert.
Onsite portions not so much if anything some are fairly small

It is subjective and depends on how big your portions normally are at home.

Yes they are big portions.

I think at restaurants at Disney will have an age limit someone else will clarify but off the offsite places we went to weren’t bothered.

We also took stuff home. We wanted pudding but were stuffed so took it to go.
Our kids were really little and they had their own dinner which they would have had more than enough sharing one so we ended up taking pizza home one night for our youngest.

Nothing much further to add regarding portion sizes, but we absolutely love the to go concept, and wish it was more widely available in the UK to save waste.

From our experience of many trips to the USA , restaurants are way more accommodating than many here in the UK, especially off site -we don't normally eat on site so others with more experience can advise.

They probably wouldn't bat an eyelid if you wished to order off the child menu.

Whatever you do, don't order an appetiser and a main at the Cheesecake Factory and expect to be able to eat a cheesecake slice after!

In offsite restaurants you can ask for a "senior" portion, which I found gives just about the same amount as a UK portion. Most places don't care what your age is...

We love the fact that you can ask for food exactly the way you like. And ask for whatever is left "to go".

Though dd15 at the time learned to LISTEN after the waiter asked her if she wanted her crusts to go - she had nibbled away each slice of pizza to a perfect teeny crescent edge and the waiter was joking with her - she said "oh, yes please" and we all got the giggles.

Portions are huge compared to the uk, however I always get leftovers to go, or take dessert to go, I’ve also ordered off kids menus and seniors menus had no issue
