Going grey with coloured hair
I've decided - I'm ready to go grey. (All my friends are my age anyway so they know the red is not for real )
The problem is I have quite long hair and it's henna'd, So it's never going to fade What do people do so as not to have an obvious line in their hair growth as it grows out over possibly two years? I guess I will have to have at least some of it cut |

I had mine dyed for a final time with more of a jagged effect at the top so as it grew out there was a less harsh line.
The hair dresser recommended it and I was happy with how it worked.

I had blond highlights put in to make the root line less obvious and gradually went blonder and blonder until my grey was blending in with the highlights. Took a while but like you I didn't want a white root line.
I've ended up sticking to having a few blonds put in twice a year as I decided I wasn't ready to just be grey😄 |

I took the plunge and decided to go back to my natural colour but I had it cut several times so it wasn't quite so bad and also thought long hair is not a good look on someone of my age.

Trouble is you can't mix chemical dyes with henna so I can't use highlights

There are ways of dulling the henna. Apparently vodka helps, as does lemon juice, coconut oil etc too

Can you henna the roots in a lighter shade or just some strands.

I think a lot depends on how well your hair holds dye/henna. For some it's permanent, for others it fades, so you many not have quite as much of a regrowth line as you think.
I decided to stop colouring my hair just over 2 years ago. I used semi permanents, but as a natural redhead (very faded now) my hair took colour really well and held it... basically till it grew out, but it did fade quite a bit in the end. I just left mine to grow out, I have longish hair (to my shoulder blades) and it's taken this long for it finally to be back to my natural colour.
